Question 16 valve cam lifter seat removal

I am looking for expertise on removing the lifter seats from the cam tower. I also need a lifter seats replacement, so if someone has an extra cam tower available, please let me know.

Hey MK, Let me know how much. I only need a lifter seat from one now, preferably with the lifter, but I will gladly consider a complete housing.

Lifter seat? D'ya mean the sleeve or some part I'm missing the pleasure of knowing?

If it's the sleeve, then use a big pliers (channel locks) and gently twist it.

Lifter sleeve sounds right, where are you going to grab it, it is essentially flush with the face of the cam tower. Sounds like you know though.... help!

On the early engine, like 78 to early '80, the sleeves are seperate pieces. Sounds like you've got a later 16v engine. Looked to me like the sleeves are pressed in on that version.

What's the issue?

The cam tower is from an '8o Euro S

The issues is a head socket bolt had an hex tool break in it, so to get it out a window was cut in the side. To properly clean the housing, removing the cam seems prudent. It seems the sleeves need to be removed to let the cam slide out.

I also found a sleeve is scored, so want to replace that one. Alternatively I can just put the cam in a different housing.

So I need at least a lifter sleeve and possibly a cam housing.

I also need to know how to remove the sleeve. I suspected they might be pressed in, so am looking for confirmation.

Didnt know there were sleeves in the cam tower, looked like one solid machined piece. Ill pull it out of the shed and see how it looks . no lifters are in there, but it may be salvagable. everything from the euro stuff worked well, i see no reason why the towers wouldnt work. actually, i think this is the bad one, that had a crack on one of the mounting flanges. Ill let you know tomorrow.

I didn't know there were sleeves, until we tried to pull the cam out and they were in the way. Your cam tower may be just what I need, something to pull parts from. Hopefully it will come with an attractive price, particularly if it is damaged
