I just bought and have been using a portable Bell Pro RX65 so I could carry it around to all my cars, instead if the one built-in SR1 in Godzilla which in my opinion is still the greatest detector ever made. Now the RX65 is supposed to have the exact circuitry that the SR series has, so I bought it.
I drove 10 miles, and got two false LASER warnings. Never have had a false laser warning from the SR1. I'll keep reporting on it. The X-band chirp is the loudest and most obnoxious which is kinda backwards!!!

chrysler vehicles and mercs are using laser for A/C temp and for the magic cruise or side warning stuff....ummmmmmmy radar detector has been going nuts lately i figured out it was because i was driving up near these brand new mercedes and lexus that have side monitoring radar and that anti collision stuff surrounding the car........
My interior on my srt8 has the chrysler auto climate control which uses laser temp reading to adjust interior temp. thelaser reads the body temp of the person in the seats.....and sometimes it it will bounce off me and hit the windshield then the detector goes off.............

Noticed on my recent trips that them tractor trailers are running forward and rear proximity radar that gets picked up in the "X" band.

Many people have seen the 'laser IR thermometers' which have a laser that shoots a red dot where the center of the sensor is pointed, and therefore mistakenly believe that the laser is doing the sensing. It isn't. It is just there for aiming. In fact the lower-end units don't even come with a laser.

My V1 is setoff by Infinity FX cars that are behind me. I believe this is due to the adaptive cruise control. The Chevy Trailblazer and GMC equivalent set it off at stop lights. My theory is the third brake light brake light. Also, sometimes when I pull up to a convenience store with bar code scanners and it always goes nuts about every 20 seconds with in a mile of the airport.
I’ve had number different radar detectors thought the years (Escort, Bell, Cobra, Uniden) and the V1 has been my hands down favorite. None have performed as well or lasted as long. I think I’ll get a new one just so I don’t have to keep switching it from car to car.
The unit is 7 years old and works flawlessly. The other units usually only lasted 2 to 3 years, 4 tops (Escort/passport).

The best feature of the V1 is that it actually shows you what direction the radar signal is coming from!
This has saved me a few times when one comes up from behind.
Before that with other detectors I depended on reflections from large vehicles ahead of me (truck doors). Unfortunately that only told you that there was radar nearby, you had no idea where.
V1 gets my vote!

H, I know you asked the other Dave this question, but it sometimes helps, sometimes doesn't.
If he's off to the side, he's no threat(yet).
If it's a very strong signal, strong enough for him to get a lock(or nearly so) when you are first alerted, it makes no difference -- you have to drop anchor immediately.
For me, in the local terrain/threat environment, often times radar will first be detected as a very weak signal, one to three LEDs. At this level he can't possibly have a lock.
If it's from the rear, you can just monitor it for a while, seeing if the signal gets stronger while you check your mirrors. If it gets weaker & disappears, drive on. If it stays the same or increases, he's behind you in traffic -- take action.
If it's from the front, increasing strength rapidly, he's probably stopped or on the other side and you're approaching him rapidly -- you must act quickly. If it's from the front and staying at the same strength or increasing slowly, he's ahead of you in traffic and you have some time to take action.
In brief: if you slam the brakes at the first beep, knowing where the cop is carries no benefit. Sometimes a signal comes in so strong there is nothing to do but hit the binders. Sometimes the V1 detects him far enough away that you have time to think about how to respond, and in these cases the extra information is helpful -- IMHO.
