Actually the '89s have the same dash as the 90+.

IMO - An '89GT for $25k should have many thousands of dollars in new parts in the last few years to be worth it. (TB, WP, all new rubber (wires, hoses, gaskets, etc.) under the hood, rebuilt LH, recent MAS replacement, pan gasket, motor mounts, clutch, shocks, etc.) If you add up the cost of all of the parts on a 17 year old car that have reached the end of their service life due to the passage of time and 80k miles it adds up. It should need nothing. The motor should be spotless. The suspension should be firm and track like its on rails. AC should be cold. All accessories should work.

That is certainly YOUR opinion... FWIW...

My old 89 GT didn't have those "newer" items because they weren't freakin' needed!! My GTS has them and I wish it didn't... how many people actually have a working tire pressure monitoring system? And that is ONLY if they stay with stock overpriced rims. Or airbags... yeah I want that **** exlpoding in my face and hence totalling my car because the bags destroy the dash, steering wheel, windshield, likey a-pillars and lord knows what else. Yeah I want that.
The PSD in my GTS is pathetic AND unpredictable. Give me a straight cut 89GT with LSD any day. And you wanna know why?? Because I drive my car not fluff it for profit.
See you at the track, chump.

Where in Colorado is the car? If it's a reasonable distance from me I'd be happy to go take a look at it for you. While I'm no 928 expert I have been lurking here on this board for awhile and am familiar with all the normal used Porsche stuff to check.

Anyway, let me know if I can help.

Well, that is certainly your opinion, smalltime! Your entitled to it, and you certainly own it. My experience however, after having driven all of the year S4's, GT's and GTS's, all 5 speeds, of course, is that I'll gladly take my '94 5 speed GTS over any other model (with the exclusion of a '95) over any older model anyday. Airbags, gladly. They've been proven to save lives. Tire pressure monitoring? Excellent invention. If you ever have any money, you really ought to use re-instate that feature. Considering my time spent with each car averages 2-3 months at a time, I feel I have a pretty good idea of what's great and what's second.

And did you actually say "see you at the track, chump", to me? LOL! I'll give you my GTS if you can even make it look like I'm not racing a small child...........chump!

I'm done with this punk!

That would be Dr. Smalltime to you, Sir Braggs-a-lot.
Whenever you can afford to keep a car longer than 2-3 months, why don't you come back to Rennlist and actually make a worthwhile contribution instead of boasting about what 'we' want. You have no clue of what 'we' want.
And why is it that you always end up in a major debate?
Oh, and I'm leaving tomorrow to pick up my 27th Porsche. That's right, I currently own 27. How's that for small time?

Yours truely,
Punk

P.S. To RV and the starter of this thread, I do apologise. I grow tired of this turd.

I agree, it's people like this guy that discredit, demoralize, divide and anger so many true enthusiasts with their negativism. Each person on here is here because they have a passion for 928's. Regardless of how or what they use them for.

Some members choose to race their 928's. That would offend some purists. Some buy and sell their 928's. That offends some long time owners. Some are here just for simple questions and answers. I have never understood why there are a few people on this board that have such a generally bad outlook. They treat other, fellow 928 enthusiasts like crap. This is suppose to be a community of people who share the same passion for the same automobile...............regardless of how they choose to use they're own car.

And I didn't know that you personally represent what "everyone" on this site wants? You say that I make no contributions to this site. Well, ironically, just this evening before posting on this thread, I started a thread of what I considered to be of value entitled "good deal on '89 black/tan S4, 43,000 miles, $14,500". It's not mine and I have no affiliation with the seller. Would you consider this a good contribution?

You may want to also check my previous threads to see my so called "lack of contributions" as well.

I've owned alot of 928's. No biggie, perhaps? But maybe to someone with a small question of comparison, it may be invaluable.

Why don't you work on your bad attitude and not be so critical. Oh, and congrats on your 27th 928!

Sorry Randy V..............................

Boys! Boys!!. I agree, why can't we all just get along. I bought my 90 GT upon start-up! Owner did not even let me drive it. Never owned, been close to, or driven a 928 in my life. I'm 41 years old, and have always loved these beauties since I can remember. Kids who give me the thumbs-up don't know I have a pending 25% of my cost maintenance cost repair bill. I bought the car because I wanted it. If they **** you off, do not buy one. I can't wait to buy an earlier car to track it and get into a whole other world of grief!!! Just my 2 pennies worth. Shawn

I'm with Scott about unnecessary later stuff. I'll take LSD over PSD, no airbags, no factory (36 psi front and 44 psi rear!) tire pressure crap. The sound deadening improvements of '90+ and pollen filter of '94+ are worthy changes, but not too important to me.
One thing I'm not a big fan of is the '89+ roof antenna. I get better reception from my windshield antenna.
'89 GT is a great car, no doubt.
p.s. my '87 was $6988 when a similar GT would have been $16988. That left me a lot of $$ room to get her up to snuff. The S4 is bang for the buck.

That's really valuable information to me--thanks a ton for everything. I spoke to the owner last night and it sounds like the car is in very good condition but not great: rear AC does not turn on. Radio turns off when passenger side window is rolled down????--sounds like a fire waiting to happen to me. Small ding from door being opened into right front quarter panel. Interior side panels next to rear seats are warped. Otherwise it looks like the car has good service records, is definitely an '89 GT. Timing belt was replaced 7yrs ago (20,000 miles ago); owner is unsure about the clutch and the water pump--he is going to check and get back to me (he bought the car with 64,000mi seven years ago).

If you can wait a bit, I'd let this one cool off . A risk on some levels to be sure but reality creeps in over time and tenderizes the seller. Oh by the way, time's up on the TB, forget the low mileage number. G
