VIN's appear in at least 3 places I know of, the window pillar on drivers side, the door jamb on drivers side, and on the passenger side fender, about 2/3rds of the way up on the top of the fender.
I have heard that they may not always agree, on mine at least they do.
Neil
Checked! Same numbers! Thanks though.

Since car is US version you can check VIN's validity by counting what check digit should be and compare it to actual character in the VIN.

Its probably correct but never hurts to check anyway. In 928's case this works only with US VIN's as Porsche used Z in that postition on ROW VIN's.

Other question is is your cars VIN within expected range for '87 US model. For it to be normal production model VIN should be between these limits:

WP0ABO92_HS860061
WP0ABO92_HS862481

There should always be ROW VIN in passenger side fender and US VIN under front window. In US window VIN is only valid version. When same car is imported to Europe fender VIN is only one authorities normally recognize as its stamped to actual body. Law don't like stickers in here and require chassis number to be stamped to body on importation if stamping doesn't already exist like it doesn't on some old cars from sixties and before.
