You didn't say whether it was auto or manual or whether the oil is black or red. If it is red (and it's an auto) you need to fix that right away (ask me how I know) water in the auto fluid is very bad news.

When I drove my 928 up to North Carolina for SITM, I parked it in the garage next to my dad's '96 Jetta. The cars are about the same length, but the 928 was about as wide as the Bonneville my mom drove about then. Several of my Uncles and Aunts came over that night, and one Uncle that knows cars a little bit remarked at how much smaller a 928 looks in person. I'd never really noticed this, but the more I look at the car and then pictures, the more I believe what he said.

N!

With my old 930 and 928 parked in the garage , side by side, The 930 seemed bulkier. I think it is driving feel rather than actual size. My 928 seems small in parking lots compared to most cars. And next to my sisters' 98 trans am, it is downright tiny.

My car used to be the same color as yours, until some hick decided to spray paint it in his back yard with some duplicolor. Maybe you could send me some pics of yours so I'll know what mine should look like. For everyone else, the car is very wide compared to most other Porsches I've driven. It's wider then my daily driver. I think it might be wider then my father's '03 Q45. It's an '85 automatic. It hasn't had a no-start issue since yesterday afternoon. I'm going to ignore that until it becomes a major problem. My first goal is to get it through MD safety inspection and that means getting the brakes working along with any other safety equipment. As for the oil in the coolant bottle, I don't think it's a head gasket at this time. The engine runs too well to have a head gasket issue, plus I'm not seeing any coolant mixed with oil on the dipstick. How do I repair the problem if it's the radiator? Is there a way to fix it, or do I have to buy a new radiator?

944 is 68.3 inch wide ... The heat exchanger inside the radiator is not available as a replacement part so it would need either a good used radiator or possibly our all aluminum higher capacity new radiator for $895. Make sure that it is NOT auto trans fluid in the water because if coolant water gets into an automatic transmission it does BAD things very quickly. The heat exchangers first leak oil or atf into the coolant since the pressures are much higher but after the engine is shut down the coolant holds residual pressure long after shut down until it cools down.

Hoorayy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on your good luck!

Sounds like you got yourself quite a project car there - you're officially in the club.

I do have one important request...

PLEASE POST SOME PICS!

Congrats and good luck. Sounds like you are where I was a year and a half ago. (except some of my electrics didn't work) One thing I've learned about these cars is that everything can be fixed. The parts are available and technical help is just a click away.

Let us know when EVERYTHING works.

The 928 looks bigger than it is until you park it next to something else. I park mine next to my 944 and it doesn't seem much larger yet when I go to pull the 944 in the garage and work on it there is so much more room for me to manuver around the 944.

If you park a 928 next to a 996 they look to be very close in size.

that's what she said... I thought that at first too. It's an optical allusion. That car fits in my garage and i can still pull my caravan in BEHIND it.....

the car shrinks as you get used to it. take it to a track day, and get a flying start to driving it.
(I'm on a business trip right now, and miss my 928, I'll have to give it a good spanking when I get home)

yours shrinks after you spank it?? hmmmm.... mine usually needs more spanking. maybe you need a master... er, mechanic?

sounds like deja vu - mine only needed a few fixes too. 10 yrs and god knows how much $$$ - it just needs a few fixes but I wouldn't sleep w/another car in my garage.
