Reminds me of a story from Leonard Turner, from the same press launch
I remember the 928 intro well--we were still pretty new in the business, and this was our first European press introduction. It even seemed that this type of activity was new for Porsche; when I went down early the first morning to get some soft-light photography done, the cars weren't even washed! I took matters into my own hands, and believe that I may well have been the first American to wash a 928...
Thinking that pic was taken at weissach, same day as these...see the stripe in the pavement? Happy to report this car has a fresh clutch and was ripping up the roads earlier today
David E Davis and Brock Yates, 1977 Car and Driver - 928 test drive intro in Europe.
A pic from that article, one I have never seen before. This is the interior of the very late stage prototype six digit vin car that was (or optimistically is) petrol blue with tan / pasha seats. This car was used in a lot of ads and articles of the period even though it was a prototype. This is the best shot of the inside I've ever seen. Look at all the prototype weirdness! 911 seats, primitive console, shift boot, and material-covered dash and console that did not show up in production until a few thousand cars were built.
