I never noticed the seat belt retractor in the seat, before. Must be some heavy duty seats!

It would have been much easier to put the retractors in the roof panel!

German engineering is never about what's easy. It's about what works best - in this case what protects the driver best in an impact. If you put the thing in the ceiling, you cannot hold the driver in the seat as well as if it's in the seat.

If the retractor is attached to the seat base, I suppose it might hold the driver.

In this case, I think it is purely for asthetic. No door pillar or anything hanging from the roof to spoil the look when all the doors are open.

I believe that Heinz Prechter (spelling?) former owner of American Sunroof Corp. (ASC) used to own one of these (same color as pics). I believe that he duplicated the one that was built for Prof. Porsche. I used to see it occassionally at local automotive events in the Detroit area.

Bill, the first several 928 fotos you posted are the best I've ever seen. Who did the photography? Definitely calendar quality. You could do a nice calendar on this car alone.
