Lots of dead ones here, and mine is not in there, my poor baby has to sit out in the sun on a hot Georgia day.

And yes, this is a working shop, not pretty like some home garages, but we sure have fixed a lot of cars over the years.

Looks like the iphone thread went away (or at least I can't find it). Oh well. This works here too.

Greg- Beauty schmooty, that's a great space. Wish the HOA would build a playground like that for our neighborhood....

We have a member here, Utah 997 whose HOA denied him the right to build up, he built down, got about as much underground as most do on the surface.

Great guy, he hangs out over at the Corvette forum, real car guy, he bought a Ferrari, a 360 I think and took it out for a drive and had some one ask him if that was the new Mustang.

Default 5.0L by Jim Morton

Before Rob makes the comment that the fuel rails, dampers, and regulators lack *bling* let me note that those parts are not part of this engine build and they'll be replaced with a different fuel system.

We run out of money so we only installed one intake spacer! ;-)

It's basically a lightly modified late '87 5.0 motor, no squirters:
- Intake manifold is ported and one spacer is installed to produce balanced 280-285 cfm in each runner
- The heads are ported (Not by Jim's head guy, instead by a total head case. How well they are ported only time will tell). Valves are stock size but more heat resistant than the stock valves
- The Dennis Kao cam deal (Elgin 65-6 on S3 cams, lightweight lifters, stronger cam chains) plus PAC beehive valve springs
- Gates racing timing belt and Porkensioner (yes, it works)
- Four cam cover breathers with splash guards in each of them, John Kuhn's filler neck splash guard, trick oil filler neck (not yet installed in the photos)
- Thick top '87 pistons dished to about 8.5 static CR by a Rebco, 951 top ring, gapless second ring to better control oil-induced ring flutter, piston oil holes improved
- '87 PPF rods, balanced and web drilled crank, Porsche OEM rod bearings with a dry film coating
- Ported girdle and block oil passages, expanded crankcase, 3/8" pan and pickup spacers, I-J system (believe or not!), OB pan, OB pan pickup, and OB sump screen

Found some new 16" staggered tele-dials to go on my '85, but they were in really rough shape. Luckily a trip to the powdercoater for some bead blasting and powdercoating put them right. At first I liked the color I chose, then I second guessed myself a lot because it's a little different, but once I put them on the car, I'm really digging it. Sorry if it's not your thing, I wanted a nod to the original style but still distinctive.

The 50 aspect rubber that Porsche spec'd for these is taller than I would have chosen, but I guess it's right for the car, and it'll look a ton better once the transmission and rear suspension is back in and I can get the suspension to settle out again.

I think I just sprouted wood.
What is PPF rods? What's the deal with the OB pan etc?

PPF is precision powder forged. That's what 928s had until some time in early '88. Then, they reduced cost and went to cast rods. For GTS, they went to conventionally forged rods but messed up the design badly.

The 944 switched from PPF rods to cheaper cast rods a couple of years earlier, except the 951 which got to keept he more expensive PPF rods for a little while longer.

OB has a better oil pickup arrangement and a screen on top of the sump. Seems to be better at keeping the pickup submerged than the S4 pan and pickup.

Why would you do away with a working cold air system to go to a oiled hot air system?
I mean it looks good, but how many ponies did you give up?

Hi Greg,
What oiled hot air system? I put the cones on to keep the critters out for now, I don't drive it yet.
As I said, I need to put 90's (elbows) and tubes to the front ram and tie it all in.
With 3.5" or 4"(if I can get away with it) tube instead of 2.75 (at the airbox), how many ponies would you think I'm giving up?
Actually I was suprised the C5 tube fit without having to cut, grind, weld, or modify it at all. After all, I did say, in the after foto...so far.
