This Porsche 928 S is an unusual example of the modern classic grand tourer, which was converted to Group 4 specification for Belgian endurance racing legend Jean Blaton. Now resplendent in its black and red period-correct livery, this example is equipped to Group 4 specification, and generally presents well. However, before the car is to be used once more, the engine will need to be rebuilt or replaced, after which it would be suitable for a number of track or rally events, or it could form an interesting part of a wider collection of motorsport icons.
- This Porsche 928 S is an intriguing example of the modern classic grand tourer, which has been upgraded to Group 4 specification and boasts excellent provenance having been converted and owned during its early life by Belgian endurance racer Jean Blaton.
- It is powered by a 4.7-litre naturally aspirated V8 producing over 300bhp, which is sent to the rear wheels via a dog-leg five-speed manual transmission.
- This particular left-hand drive 928 S was delivered new to Germany in 1981 in the classic hue of Pacific Blue metallic over a blue leather interior. Later that year the car was built to Group 4 Specification by JB Racing for Jean Blaton.
- The car is reported not to have raced in any International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) races, but was apparently used in club and track day events during its early life.
- This 928 S is finished in black with bright red sponsor decals on the body panels and doors, over a black stripped-out interior with a single racing bucket seat.
- It rides on a set of 15-inch split rim wheels shod in Michelin racing tyres.
- Now finished in Group 4 specification, this car started life as a standard 4.7-litre 928 S, and was immediately converted by specialists JB Racing. The original 4.7-litre engine is reported to have been replaced during the car’s lifetime with another 4.7-litre unit.
- Inside, the car features an Alcantara-trimmed Momo steering wheel, a lightweight OMP racing seat, a black roll cage, a fire extinguisher and a redesigned dashboard featuring all of the car’s vital dials, and a selection of toggle switches.
- There is no impact damage present on the bodywork.
- The black paintwork is described as being in generally good condition, showing general signs of wear and tear, some stone chipping, minor scratches, and a few areas where the paint is beginning to lift away from the bodywork.
- Inside, the cabin presents well, with some light wear on the black bucket seat, and some general scuffs and marks, which are in line with the car’s use and mileage.
- The vendor reports that the engine is not running well, which is believed to be a result of a problem with the cylinders most likely causing oil to get past the pistons. The engine will require a rebuild or replacement with another similar unit.

My 1985 928 is finally on the road and just completed it's first 110 mile round trip in over 12 years. Still some issues to address like the A/C, new rotors and caliper rebuild which I'm working next week.
