Forgot easiest way to check. If you have option code M251 listed in option sticker you have 2.538:1 gearing in A28/09 gearbox. Stock box was A28/08 and '86 32V used A28/11, which was standard in Australia. 09 was standard in Switzerland and Sweden for some reason.

If you don't want to do that, next best thing is to check your gearbox type from stamping in it. Reason for two different gearings were that 2.538:1 (IIRR) was optional in ROW 16V automatics at '85-86 while 2.357:1 was standard. Or was it other way round.

The auto boxes for S2's were A28.04, A28.05, and A28.06 The A28.05 was standard and the A28.06 was optional. The 06 had the 2.54 gearing, the 05 had the 2.35. It should say on your production sticker located under the back carpet if you still have it.
There is a great video on the london city high speed run done this summer at an unused airport in London that had exotics go for top speed. The best they could get in the distance was about 180 with the slr mclaren leading all others. I would really like to see you top it.
Edit: Just to add to what erkka said: but there seems to be a misprint in this graphic for 09 and 11. 13:33 should be 2.54

There is Fiat X1/9 with heavy mods like Honda (IIRR) engine with huge turbo etc. in Finland which goes about 190 mph in standing mile. Faster than any bikes in these airport top speed tests.

Also, really look at the aerodynamics... There are a lot of cheap mods you
can do, to increase your speed. Fold in the mirrors, take off all the wiper arms,
put duct tape over the headlight buckets, take off any wings or spoilers,
duct tape body and door seams, make a rear wheel fenderwell enclosure
out of plastic and duct tape, make a really low air dam out of plastic,
make side skirts out of plastic and duct tape, etc...
There are a ton of cheap and effective aero mods you can do at
the track, and remove after the run...
Also, one extra note: Wider tires cause more drag.
So unless you have a lot of high speed turns,
it's better to go with a stock or narrower than
stock tire width. Wide is good for a twisty racetrack,
but not good for top speed...

The guy handles the cars (gear shifter, steering wheel) like a monkey. Yet, they say "he is one of the best drivers around" Yeah right. he doesnt even know how to drive a stick! he even broke one gear box.
