Wow...and he walked away!
A SOCAL 928 member who lives in western Europe (I think Holland) was involved in an accident recently. It appears a semi truck was unable to stop and had collided with the back of his 928. He had only sent these two pictures, but he did tell us he managed to get through this without as much as a scratch. We are happy for him and it is a testiment at how safe these cars really are!

Wow - nice to hear he is ok.
Looks like a perfect 928 for a pickup project.

glad he made it out o.k. but looking at the 928 the drivers seat seems to be missing, or did it break and is laying completly down?
if it broke that was a hard hit.

I am happy he is OK, but sad to see a 928 go ... Tommy needs to wake up and pay attention on the road. Semis are not sportscars and can easily kill.

Wow, looks like the truck has hardly any damage.
I got rear ended like that in an Eagle Talon once... pushed the hatch/bumper up to about 10" from the drivers seat, blew the gas tank apart, shattered the back windows, and it was just a minitruck that hit me....

they are not that strong! mine broke reaching in my pocket for my cell phone. i was pushing back and the seat gears let loose. i can only imagine how weak the stock seats are in a real rear-ender! I ended up welding the gears and using the seat for a office chair!

Note the wet road. Truck following too close, 928 has excellent wet traction and brakes - Tommy has too much truck and not enough brain. Spitwit. Glad and not surprised the 928 driver walked away. Tha won't buff right out.

I've seen how fragile automobiles are. IMHO the front-rear construction of the 928 makes it very tough for frontal or rear impact, because all force is transferred front-back by the torque tube.

The style of the No. plate looks Austrian ,white/black No./red border .Dutch plates are normally yellow with black No's. Maybe it happened in Holland ?, the truck looks like it has a French style plate
When the unfortunate happens the 928 has shown itself time & time again to be a very solid /safe car, maybe non 928 owners description of the 928 as being a 'tank' has bit of truth to it

I think it adds to passenger protection. The force of a severe impact is transferred through the whole car via the torque tube, so it can absorb more energy than just a front or rear crumple zone car.
The dead weight of the entire driveline, separate from the body, will transfer energy to the other car, too?

I am just guessing of the location. He had mentioned it once, but the SOCAL board has members from around the globe, so it is difficult to remember where everyone is.
I am thinking that Porsche expected rear enders with the 928 and provided a rear crumple zone.
BTW, my neighbor was in an accident in his 928 a year or so ago. He was spun around and hit another car as he slid backwards. The seat back collapsed and he woke up in the hospital not remembering a thing.
It's too bad about this car though, we had spent a year or more helping him diagnose issues with his it to return it to full operating order. Now this happens after all of that hard work. He will be looking for another 928 though.
