Lack of engine background noise would be noted, from one sensor compared to the other mounted on the block. I am pretty sure the EZK would detect that difference and activate the safety retard.

If it's just the connectors gone, then carefully note the three wires colours on each part and then use the male and female connector kits from Roger to replace the hear affected parts.

However, if all the insulation has fallen of the lead to the sensor, and this touches metal parts under the intake, then the resulting electrical "noise" will be detected by the EZK and will activate the 6 deg retard.

I think I'll at least try the connector route first.

Should be able to test knock sensor funtion via the Hammer correct??

You would need to run the engine, then if there is a knock sensor issue there will be a recorded fault code which can be read out by a Hammer or similar tester. The testers can't test the knock sensors directly.
