Default Airbag Steering Wheel Leather Recover

Hello all,

many of you asked for this, so here it is

This is Andrew Olson's wheel. The first airbag steering wheel we have restored.

Airbags do pose somewhat of a dilemma since they are designed to split open upon impact. I designed the leather cover to open up following the same lines as the original plastic cover so it would not interfere in any way with the airbag's function. Let's hope that none of us has the opportunity to actually see it in action

On a side note: I will need to raise the price on both styles of steering wheel covers. These things are taking a lot of Linda's time and mine as well, so we don't have a choice.

I'm giving those who were on the fence about this, another week to get their orders in at the old price of $185 + $25 shipping for either styles of wheels.
As of August 23rd, the price will be $225 + $25 shipping for either styles.
That does include a new hand laced leather cover for the wheel itself, a new French stitched cover for the airbag or horn pad and the engraving of your choice.

Thanks

Paul

Nice detail ! I especially like the Porsche logo, how is it applied? Not that I want to reproduce your work but curious.
Thanks
btw Paul, I'm considering your expertise to recover a Momo wheel but mechanical fixes takes priority.

Looks great!

Why the 'dents' on either side of the airbag?

Hey Mike: the logo is engraved. It's actually burned into the surface of the leather.

Hey Randy: that is how the original cover is molded. There is actually an indentation across the whole thing. I doubled the leather in the middle part so the seam would rest flat. I reverted to the original contour at the edges.
It looks more natural in person. The shadows created by the camera seem to enhance the effect.

Actually There is one thing that I probably should have sent down at the same time - the parking brake handle. Paul, Maybe you can just send the skin for that and make it a DIY?

Paul,

Are you the one who made a leather covered center console armrest/cassette holder that was posted here a while back? If so, do you still make them and how much $ ?

That is frickin awesome! I can't imagine what Porsche would charge for that, but I bet it would be at least 10x Paul's pricing.

Hey Bill,

good chance that's me
You might have seen one with a shark scene engraved on the top, like this:

The price is $200.00
That includes a new leather cover for both the lid and the base with French stitching in the GTS style installed on your core. It also includes a suede interior like this:

And the engraving of our choice.
