Oops! Missed the update last night...only gone up $100. A little less than 2 days to go. Anonymousagain, I will add you gess tonight in the update then.

Classically, most of the eBay car bidding action occurs in the last hour or so. However, some cars with high interest get bid up high early and the bidding runs out of steam. Frankly, I thought an 87 S4 AT, even with an honest 10K miles in superb condition, would go for about $17,500. It has beat that, but not by much. It will be interesting to see if some real diehard fanatics are waiting until the last few moments to try to ****** it. I doubt that is true. This is not an 89 GT or 95 GTS manual.

At least the bidders appear pretty smart so far. No one has put in a real high proxy bid (sort of a standing order bid - the max you are willing to pay). Had anyone proxy bid the reserve or higher, the bid would have jumped immediately to the reserve. Otherwise, a proxy bid below the reserve just keeps you in the lead by the minimum bid increment. To me, the reserve is suprisingly high.

Keep watching, especially as the time winds down.

Weel, the auction ended early at 18,100. Says due to error, but a contest is a contest. That puts SteveB as the winner with a guess of $18,750. If it gets relisted, we will have another contest.

Congrats to SteveB! Steve is local, so I will hold onto the kit for pick up.

====EDIT
Actually I need to recheck the results, as those who guessed UNDER are eligible. It's whomever was closest by absolute difference. So, don't come over yet, Steve, as the official results are not in.

Cool, I won't leave work just yet. And here I thought I was going to be way low....probably would have if the auction ran its course.

Bill, don't I at least get honorable mention since I was correct that it would die before hitting reserve

Usually a pulled early auction means someone contacted them offline and asked "what do you really want for it?" and they agreed to a deal that allows the seller potentially to avoid paying eBay fees, although there are % fees on car auctions. If the deal falls through, it will reappear.

OK, I reviewed the submitted guess. There were a couple of low guesses, but SteveB at 18,750 (+650) is the winner. Claim your prize, but don't leave work early as I won't be home!

Looked like it was a dealership. If I was selling cars and someone walked in my door and said "how much?" and "you have a deal" I would sell the car too. That's what you are in business for right?

Nice looking car. Someone got a keeper from the looks of it.

Perfect... I need another 928 for my office. I'll come by over the weekend if you are going to be around.

Dangit, I guess my high bid (which was my guess) won't be going in tonight.

Oh well, this has been fun anyway

My thoughts exactly. NADA gives it a $4K boost for low mileage, but this leaves retail shy of $16K.
