I am looking at buying a 928 for the first time. I had good success buying a low mileage (12,500) S2 944 a little more than a year ago. I did have 6 years service records which showed seals, t-belt, tires, etc. replaced. Lots of folks have indicated that letting a car sit is worse than driving it - especially here in this forum. My question is - what should you expect from a 20 year old car with 10k miles on it? What kind of parts will need replaced and at what cost? Is the value due to scarcity or rarity or due to condition or both. For the record, I am not going to bid on this one, I am just gathering facts. It took too long to get over guilty feelings every time I drove the S2.

Good question. So if you spend 23,000 on this car and then another 5-7k going through it is it really worth it to have the little bit of extra mileage. I see cars with 70-80K on the cloack a lot with much lower entrance fees.

I bought my '87 S4 with 23,000 miles on it 5 years ago. You can see the link below for pictures. Now I've put more miles on the car myself than it had when I bought it and it's been 100% reliable.
I spent close to $4000 after purchase on the car.It was low miles but sitting all that time may not necessarily be a good thing. It's great for paint (mine was in a climate controlled museum) and interior however.
Immediately after purchase I spent close to $4000 on the car:
TB, WP, vacuum lines, radiator hoses, fuel filter, fuel pump (died within weeks of beginning to drive it regularly), tires, transmission service.
Oddly enough the air conditioner had not leaked down and it blew cold and has had no issues other than some R12 top up now and then.
Basically every piece of rubber on the car has been or is being replaced as I can get to it.
So, don't expect to buy this car and it be ready to rock just because it only has 10,000 miles on it. It will need some work to guarantee reliability.
That said, it sure is nice to find a low mile car because of the interior and paint condition.
The ad claims complete maintenance records. If I were bidding I'd sure like to see those. At 10,000 miles, even if the owner followed the Porsche recommended maintenance 100% that doesn't mean much as those are mileage based not time.
