Spider intake: Best way to install?

Hey all...
Just did this today. Worked best for me to put down tubes 5,6,7,8 - with hoses and clamps...then install plenum on those tubes/hoses...then do each of the other tubes one at a time in the same manner. I suppose you could do them all at once, I just liked starting out with one, left more room to reroute stuff longer.
Please see rehabbed shark attached: just started it, worked the first time Just need to put hood back on and put some interior stuff back together. Did CE, blower plenum seal, blower fan, all (rubber) fuel hoses in SAE 30R9, all coolant hoses, those coolant gaskets on the heads (heater hose on R, the plate on L), wires, caps, rotors, injectors cleaned/serviced with new injector hoses, new coolant reservoir (I hear they pop after 22 years or so), and cleaned every groundpoint on car and every wire and contact in engine bay with a wire brush or file, and put this Stabilant stuff on all connections. I've been at it several weeks.

Gasman- you should have driven it down here or I should have driven mine up there but we have been doing the same project over the same time I think! That black powdercoat looks good. Did you reuse your clamps or did you buy new ones?

I haven't changed my coolant hoses [they are still fairly new], but I did install 928 Motorsports' oil control kit and remove the air tubes on the passenger side, and replaced all the rubber fuel hoses at the injectors, several of which were weeping fuel all over the place.
I hope to have the car running by this evening! I'm itching to drive the thing for a change....

Normy: reused the clamps. Wire-wheeled the corrosion off them Wish I could find a place around here that has the Norma clamps - I like the way they look. Must admit, the screw clamps you get from Auto Zone are better, though. But Norma makes these clamps that I used for the injector hoses called Cobra that are just perfect. You have to find (guess) which will be the appropriate size, and clamp it shut with a pliers (one click only).
Byrd: I live in West County at 141 and Dutch Mill, between Manchester and Clayton. I don't see many sharks in St. Louis - I'll bet yours is one I've seen. Do you frequent the AutoZone on Manchester near 141? A shark was pulling out the other day, can't remember what color it was. I've had my car for about 5 yrs, but haven't driven it too much. It's needed lots of work, and had some dependability issues which I believe are now all sorted out.

Re: Earlier posts- its an '85 with a spider intake? (#10) Oh- I see, Euro. Nice grab. Whaddya mean oversized intake pipes? There are different part numbers for the US and Euro rubber connectors to accomodate the different diameters, IIRC.
Re: Clamps- I had stainless screw clamps for the last couple years. Maybe mine were atypical, but I was constantly having to re-tighten them. I just installed norma clamps from 928SP. I've also noticed that some Norma clamp sets come up on EBay from time to time.

I don't make it down there too much. I live about a mile from Westport. My '88 is GP white. The Euro is out of town at my Dad's. It needed alot of work when we got it too. The only 928 I see on a regular basis is an employee at Monsanto. I see the car in the parking lot from Olive Blvd. Let me know if you ever need any help, or want to get together.

I've got it all back together, and it looks good. It's funny how this works: Can't get something to go back together? Post something about it on Rennlist. Immediately proceed to the garage, and it seems like the parts magically fall into place. I think I've stumbled onto a new law of physics: the "Rennlist effect"~

Nice and clean. Hacker had it right. the center plenum can be removed independently. In fact taking off the spider legs should be very tough with the gaskets glued down. Those rubber boots can be a pain though.

Helpful info. I've got a new WUR-FD line to install, and I've been letting it sit in the basement and get banged up for quite some time because I didn't want to face the full intake R&R.....again...I imagine some soapsuds on the legs will help the boots slide a bit (mine are polished).

CeeDee- this '85 is an S2, and it is a "Euro" two valve engine of 4.7 liters. It uses the same injection and ignition that the 32 valve cars had, and as such needs two distributors. Porsche used two 944 4-cylinder distributors tied together with a tiny belt in the metal body below the two distributors- a "stop-gap" since they knew the 16 valve engine was soon to be discontinued. Ignition timing is by computer- if you were to twist these distributors, you would not change ignition timing at all. The rotor's metal tab is very wide and the spark does not usually jump across the gap to the cap when the rotor first starts to pass, it jumps when the computer tells it to do such.

old thread? I am reviving it. My newly acquired 84 Euro has shown me to have some animal poop on the manifold under the airbox. the MAF was disconnected, and i tried to start the car not knowing.
Anyway, I am scared that some stuff maybe got sucked in when I turned it over, or maybe even the animal went inside the plenum and left some droppings... so I have to take the intake off.
what is the best way you get it off and back on again ?
