Purchasing a car off of eBay Motors, is this typical
I've never purchased a car off of eBay Motors. We are using the vehicle purchase protection plan. It has me sending money via Western Union to an eBAy rep. Does this sound normal? Can I verify this with eBay? If so how?
Email came from aw-confirm@ebay-transactionhelp.com
The car an Alfa Romeo Montreal was only listed one day and the seller removed it. I had emailed her with questions about the car and asking price. Had not heard from her until today (listed Wednesday). I guess another buyer didn't respond to her emails. The car looks awesome for $5k delivered . It is in Chicago. It sounds too good to be true, I didn't ask her why it is so cheap. I don't want to get scammed. The eBay email looks authentic.
What do you think?
Thanks,
Glenn

If the seller removed it then it cannot be covered under the protection plan unless the auction was completed by you and e-bay acknowledges it. Sounds like a scam, never do western union, its posted all over ebay!

If it said the purchase price included shipping, this is a common technique for the scammers. Next they will tell you they are going to over pay you, and you will need to refund the difference.

If its the real deal, call up a notary public in the area, arrange the car purschase through them, and send them the cashiers check, have them hold the car in a locked lot with title and a check on the title and VIN that match. That way you wont get scammed. Also a mobile inspection is in order before the check is released.

Actually, I think this could be a good deal. The "seller" will get 5k and the buyer, well, will get the lesson of his life and from thereout will be alot more cautious. A win-win for all!

I got scammed once. Western Union had a $999 limit for delivery of funds. That's exactly what I lost. Your deal sound pretty suspicious. I learned something else at that time : 99% of on line escrow services are fraudulent. Never use the seller's escrow service! Again, I still offer to call and lookat the car, but I doubt that it exists.
