So I took a break last nigh from the 89 reassembly, and fiddled around with the 86. One piston top (looking through open valves) was white - perfectly clean. I was hoping that it was like this on all the pistons, but I turned it over and opened some other valves - not nearly as clean, if not very dirty. Very heavy dark caking. OOPS - water is leaking into that clean piston bore obviously.
Well, I guess its time to pull it like a real man.
Brendan, you parting it out? Where's the spare head coming from ...
No, I have other heads, but I was thinking of putting a different engine in the 86. But the engine in there is so clean, its amazing. The cam lobes are perfect, the head is clean and not brown or stained in anyway. But I have to replace the head gaskets, and am afraid of what I may find for corrosion from the coolant. The rest of the car is so perfect body wise that its a shame it has 200k - thats such a stigma.
I have driven a few other cars recently, and the 928 is feeling very heavy, old, and loose. Even when I put the better suspensions on, it seems like I am driving something that takes more effort then it should. Gasp. I drove an NSX - very nice indeed. Much more direct steering, braking, and directional change. If I can fit in an S2000, I may want to get one of those for a daily driver or daily + track. Drag your mouse over the last few lines if you want to read about 928s in a slightly pessimistic light.
Since when did Brendan have a 928 with a motor in it?
True. Quite often, but I have started to connect the dots that I have always been disapointed with them when they are together and running, and all the work I have done has always been with a very rosy view of what "could be" with the car.

Now would be a great time to add (what were once your) headers to a 32 valver...no extra charge (not even storag!) even though steel prices are WAY up.
