Dennis-
The tech specs book that macreel refers to is specific to a model and a series within that model. 928S from 1985 and 1986, and S4 from 1987 to 1989. No mention of 924 in that book, sorry.
The parts and technical reference catalog shows the 924 parts for the struts, and details everything except the springs. They get down to particular bushings and dampers for the M474 and the M030 sport options, but there's no listing for the springs themselves. 928 is the same way in that book.
Meanwhile, the PET might shed some light on your spring option issue, if you plug in the year and model. Fish around similar years and up to the 944 models and see what shakes out. I need to alter the monitor resolution on my laptop to get PET to on the screen, or I'd do it for you.
Coil spring rates are calculated based on wire diameter, coil diameter, number of coils, and winding pitch or spacing. Free length can be derived from the above but it's often easier just to state it. If you have those dimensions, any spring shop can give you a good idea what the specs are on your spring. It's also a jumping-off point towards really tuning your ride.

Bob,
Thanks for the insight. I have the same dislike for the PET and screen adjustment. I've gone throught the 924T (931) WSM but all I found was a description of the sport suspension but nothing on the springs. Guess I need to delve a little deeper.
Thanks again,
Dennis

Replacement shocks from Koni should be at home today. New spring compressor from HF in the back of the car. New poly snubbers on their way. Will disassemble tonight.

May I be struck with lightening , for I cannot recall now who proposed and did it this way .... but it sure sounded slick to me.

Dr Bob and Dennis,
You can download a copy of the pdf version of PET for your model year from Porsche at:
http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessori...originalparts/
A bit cumbersome if you want more than just your model year but at least you don't have to mess with your screen resolution.

Thanks, Jim. I need to get a set of your manusla and tech pubs too. PM me with an address and I'll stuff some bills in a plain brown envelope. She says I spend too much, so I have to steal the neighbor kids' lunch money.

Jim,
Checked the Katalog in the WSM for the 924 and found that the single red dots are for the later 924 NAs. The 931 should have a blue dot for the M471 suspension. At least my 16X7 phonedials with 205's don't rub on the springs any more. Ride height hasn't changed so I guess Ill keep them.
Thanks,
Dennis

The new Konis are here. Gee, they are easy to compress. They go right down with not a whole lot of pressure, and I'm a 170 lb weakling who would weigh 135 if I were fit. I suppose they show more resistance with fast motion, but they seem rather lightly valved to my uneducated hand.

Woops, wrong thread...will take this over to my "Bad Shocks" thread.
Well, more unhappiness. I'm trying to set up the shocks with moderately high rebound dampening. Fronts, no problem. Left them 1/2 turn shy of full hard with 7 seconds free rebound time. On the rears, one side rebounds MUCH faster than the other side. This is off the car, doing initial setup. Plenty of pumps up and down, so this is not from sitting on their side in the box. Guess I'll call Koni back again tomorrow.
Here are the numbers for the rear shocks:
-----Rebound Time (sec)
Turns
from..............Shock
hard...........1...........2
==============
0..............48.........26
1/4...........42.........22
1/2...........36
1..............29
1-1/4........22

Bill,
yes it is correct, the front on 86-95 are marked brown and the rears are marked blue (except the CS/SE with the orange up front). The number of lines 1/2/3 is to indicate the tolerance group and should match left/right (obviously).
Sincerely,
