Hey guys, a friend who has a junk 79 euro gave me this Dino steering wheel (gave me some h4's last week!). Overall it's in pretty good shape, and feels awesome compared to my stock wheel that is pretty worn. I need to pick up a new horn button though. I had never even heard of Dino steering wheels, but it resembles some of the momo wheels I've seen. Anyway, are these considered anything special? Comments are welcome!

Hey Bus, it's actually looking like that he is just going to give me the euro once I fix his 80 US model. The Euro car was running when he parked it about 5 years ago. It's in pretty bad shape, but once it's mine I'll just take what I want to keep and get rid of the rest. I'll keep you updated!

I know this may sound irrelevant...an cold, but I just don't know why anyone would want a sharp metal edged steering wheel in front of their head/face. If you have the choice to have something padded, at least like the 930 wheels which are similiar, that will still make a big difference in the event of unthinkable. If you have a 5 point restraint, then disregard the previous.

There must be SOME reason why new cars don't come with such steering wheels anymore. Actually, they haven't come with such steering wheels for more than 30 years now.

Wear a helmet, if you must have this "cool 60ies look"!

The Dino wheel is/was a popular option on many 'interesting' Euro cars, considered above MOMO in quality. many cars offered the Dino as a dealer-installed option, and that may be why it was in your donor car.

Thinking back, I've owned four British cars that had Dino wheels installed. Ironically, I also had a 246 Dino that did not have a Dino wheel in it.

As for the safety issue.
The wife asked me once “why I put a wooden steering wheel on my 78 MGB (with lap & shoulder belts) – wasn’t I worried about it hurting me in an accident?” Anyway I told her that if I was driving in such a manner that the stock safety belt didn’t keep me from eating the wheel in a wreak – I'd probably have other medical concerns more pressing than a broken nose & some missing teeth.

Keith: That is a good point! Actually there is a cover that goes over all of the exposed metal, it just looked better with it off. I could just put it on when I drive, then just pull it off for shows and such. I'll take a pic with the cover on.

Bob: Thanks for the tidbit of info. I'm going to do a little research online and see what I can dig up.

looks nice. but the 930 wheel is the nicest IMO. I wonder if paul has done any custom leather stearing wheel work. btw, nice CF gauge surround. Jageng?
