The airbag actually functioned properly. I was in a SAAB 9000 driving down the far side of a 1 lane bridge when I noticed a car coming at me with no headlights on (at 10-something at night). I swerved and barely missed the car, but my right wheels got caught in a ditch. There was a sharp step up when the ditch went into a pipe under a farm driveway. When the front tire hit the driveway at ~25mph there was enough of a shock to set the airbag off. There was no damage to the car other than a few scrapes on the bottom.
