Default 928's aren't so expensive to maintain. :-)

From the Nordstern Porsche Club e-mail list.

>>> So
About a mile from my house, it looks like my engine failed. There was a big
noise racket from the center of the engine and it limped back to my house. I
listened to it a little and then started/stopped it a couple of times and then
it wouldn't start anymore. The starter motor tries to turn it but it can't
budge it. No CEL codes at all. Can't believe my luck with my 996 given I just
had a new transmission installed 3 weeks ago. Must be a Friday evening car.

Anyway, I'm selling it now. Too expensive to run, 31k into it over the past 12
months. Lifters (5k), DME (2k), Oxygen sensor (500) Transmission (9.7k) and
now engine (14k). Ridiculous. Looks like I'm just unlucky, hopefully the new
owner will have better luck given it'll basically be a new car now anyway. <<<

Why of why..."There was a big
noise racket from the center of the engine and it limped back to my house. I
listened to it a little and then started/stopped it a couple of times and then
it wouldn't start anymore. The starter motor tries to turn it but it can't
budge it. " ...........when your car is trying to tell you something LISTEN ! so many people try to.." limped back to my house" .... I really think normaly rational people are overwhelmed by a homing instinct and try to make it home when the car starts to run poorly... But back to the initial point ,Yes many owners of other model Porsche cars spend a lot of money on their cars.

Why...
Because he probably leased it, never owned one before, and can't understand why it broke again! Or he upgraded from a Boxster!

Famous Quotes from customers:

-- Yes, that "oil pressure" warning has been coming in and out for weeks now. The car has run OK until today, so it must have been a bad sensor or something.

-- There was a bunch of smoke that came out but it was still running so I drove it to you after I dropped the dog off at the groomer. It just started making that noise, so it's probably not anything serious, right?

-- I just replaced all those hoses. There's no way all the oil could have leaked out!

-- "Are you sure it really needs an overhaul? It's just a little knock. Is it OK to drive it for a month or two while I save up the money for the repair? I just spent all my money on new tires!"

-- There was plenty of meat left on those pads last time I looked at them. How did they wear out so fast?

-- Is there something you can pour in to keep it quiet long enough for me to sell it?

QUOTE]
I know that one, I had a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd, the light kept coming on and the gauge went to zero, I called the dealer, he said it was a common problem - bad sensor, igonore it, but make an appointment anyway. I was driving past the dealership a week later when there was a big bang and engine seized solid.
I was able to coast into the main entrance to the sales area, got out and walked in and spoke to the service manager - told him the story while the sales guys jumped up and down and got upset because customers could not get in or out.
Dealer said it was there problem, took me out of the 98 into a '01 at the same lease, and credited the payments on the 98. When the lease ended I got a Land Rover, and have been happy ever since.

Oh no. Not expensive at all. 1000 bucks for a radiator and 1100 bucks for a TB/WP install, but each will last 4-5 yers... Honestly, I must agree. It's not as bad s modorn cars. I mean at least there's only 1 coil...- Ruf
