BTW, Tim, you should visit with Shane. He's commutes between his home in AK and his sharks in Washington state. It's a commuter love affair but it seems to work for him. You know you won't be able to easily replace your Shark w/o going through the same update process that got your '88 to the condition it is today.

I wasn't questioning your integrity, just asking for the extra push for the car...then they just gave me a big shove towards it.

My conversation with my local mechanic regarding 928's went like this.., "so Alan what can you tell me about the 928" and he says... "they are the most expensive Porshe to repair". Ouch! Then he relented and said "the 928 is a great driving car, just not fun to fix...they (Porsche) took a 15 sq foot engine and forced it into a 12 sq ft compartment" ..... otherwise I think he likes them..???

When you drive a 928 on a curvy road or track or superhighway...you can't easily change, even if it's a moneypit...it can be worth it, unless you buy a real dog, then you'll pay out the nose bringing it up to reliable specs. My 968 and my Audi TT are MUCH more reliable and cheaper to maintain than the 928...but not nearly as fun to drive. Really good, fast cars are not cheap. Pay more for a better 928 on the front end and you'll almost always pay less in the longer run....if you have a good PPI done and are cautious before you lay down the money. There's a lot of crap on eBay. Too many people are selling 928s because of a looming huge $$$ concern. If there's torque tube damage....you're toast. If the Timing belt lets fly on your drive home...you're toast. If the transaxle goes out you're toasted. If several things like AC, power steering, brakes, etc. go out soon, you're toast, and you can quickly get thousands of dollars more invested in the 928 than it would be to buy one where someone else has already sunk the big money...and/or carefully maintained the car. Either way, you'll need a larger annual budget to maintain the Porsche than a Ricer. The 928 is probably the best, fastest, best handling car in the world....for the money.

But for some strange reason I have my doubts that 928s are so much harder to fix than, say, a mid-engined Boxster. I don't really know, but at least you can see a shark's engine...

Well…it is a sad day indeed.

“Sharkey has left the building” as they say. His new proud owner is Robert Bigham as of today. Bob just left for a cross-country drive to Atlanta and I’m sure right now he’s sporting a great big ****-eating-grin ear to ear.

Nice guy and an avid Porsche fan so I’m sure Sharkey will be in good hands…even tho I feel like I just let my best friend go

Maybe in a year or so after the business is on solid ground and I have more time I’ll start looking for a GTS. In the mean time I will still be lurking around here making all you shark-a-holics miserable

Ya...the trip back was heart stopping to say the least. Myself, John and Dave I'm sure left many travelling the HWY 90 wondering what the hell just passed them...I'm simply amazed at how nice an 18 year old car feels at twice the legal cruzing speed limit.

Again, it was a tough decision...and if Bob had not really wanted the car...I wouldn't have sold it....but as you say...I indeed will be back one day.

PS...we lost you some where at Leavenworth...did you find a pub???

I hit the interstate at Cle Elum. I like those nice red-white-blue
patriotic speed limit signs all the way to Seattle & the smokeys

Drats...day late and dollar short...again. Someday the timing and karma will be right. In the meantime, I can only hope that 928 mileages stay low, people keep throwing upkeep money into their rigs, and the prices keep dropping. Yea...I know, I'm haluccinating.
