Default Central Warning System repair - Write-up is available!

I recently repaired my central warning system (CWS) controller on my 84.

If there is any interest, I was thinking of doing a write-up with pictures that would include disassembly, inspection, cleaning, reflowing solder joints, reseating the microcontroller, assembly and some limited testing with a multi-meter.

Let me know if anyone is interested?

Can't say it better than that except, maybe, and also quoting, "yes, please."

Just an explanation of how you properly reflow solder joints would be enough for me.

O.K. the write-up is completed. I tried posting it and due to the size it would not post. I have tried 3 times now to reduce the size of the file and the pics to the point that the forum will accept it without any luck.

MS word doc size limit is only 2MB. Original file was 13MB, reduced file is 7.6 MB. I converted to PDF and was able to get down to 1.6MB; however, looks like the limt for PDF is only 149KB.

I tried posting the write-up directly in the forum; however, it doesn't like pics over 249KB!

So, the PDF should go thru regular email without any problems, any objections to me sending the write-up to those interested by regular email?

Tom,

You have 200MB upload space as a Rennlist member. Upload it there, then link to it.

Go here to register:
http://mall.rennlist.com/memberweb.asp

Then go here to login, and use the archaic upload manager:
http://members.rennlist.org/cgi-bin/webmanager.cgi

If you are using Windows, you should only have to go through the secure login once, as the info will be saved by the OS.

O.K. I have posted it on my member website. Document URL is:

http://members.rennlist.com/tom928/P...air_rev1p0.pdf

Let me know if there are any problems accessing it.
If you have any questions or feedback; feel free to ask or suggest.

Porken - thanks for the help. I completely forgot about this option.

Wow! Excellent writeup.

Now dump the code and make a reprogrammer for the µ-controller.

Actually, what's needed for the cars with TB warning lights is a jumper from the 'switch' to the gauge light, in order to bypass the (3) minute delay.

Thanks Porken,

I was thinking of dumpng the code while I was working on the write-up. I do have an old EPROM programmer; however, I don't have the adapter module for the 8748. It wouldn't be hard to get.

Only thing is, Im not sure how many people would be interested in microcode for the warning system. Know what I mean?

Hope the write-up helps.
