Michael,

I got my hands dirty doing exactly what you are thinking of doing. I bought a 944, non-running and tore into it. Cost me as much to have it towed home as it did to buy it. I learned a LOT about the engine in the process. In the course of a year I bought tools and parts and eventually got it running again. Wasn't much of a car but I treated as an opertunity to learn. I was working on paint and bodywork when I sold it for a better example. The guy that bought it finished the paint, body and interior. He wanted a track car, project car as well. See my sig for a pic of the '83.

For anything under 2K I don't see why you couldn't pick it up and get your hands dirty too if that's what you are looking for. It will be a project none the less. Good thing about it is that you don't need to worry about breaking it. If you do happen to break it then you have spare parts for the next 928.

Now in keeping with the other comments, it is not a very sought after model by the looks of it. Once you are done you might have a US spec early 928. The 32v's have higher HP as well do Euro models. 87+ was the same HP worldwide.

Don't be discouraged. Do what you want to do. IMO it would be a good learning experience if you decide to pick it up.

Didn't Mc'Vickers (sp) car start out about like this??

Be Specific. When you start a new topic, make the topic title something that references the issue you are posting about. You'll get better responses to a post titled "Request 928 Buying Advice - 1987 S4" over one titled "What About This One?", for example. In addition, an issue-specific title allows much better results on future archive searches when searching by 'Topic Title'.

Doh!

hey michael
thank you for your bit of your own experience.
i was planning on having her to be torn apart and then put back toghether right.
but then again . if i can pick up a driving one for maybe 3k and do the same then i might be better of
better than a car, where i may have to get everything new, including engine. since i don't see her running.
as for the 944. i loved that car. back then i was out of the country a lot and whenever i came back she started right up. when she was hot then she would stall and not start during few days but that stopped after driving her a bit more.
these cars like being married.. you pay and pay and don't seem to get anything out of it...
you pay for your porsche until that day, you sell her and you dive another car and go...
damn why oh why...
