Great, Steve, Gerry & Sara. I'm HOPING my car will have new shocks and springs before then, but I don't have much time to get that done and the car aligned.

Hey Bill,
I'm working on my HVAC. I thought I was just going to recharge it to finnish it off. But as usual, I did a little research and will probably end up replacing all the O rings, evaporators (front and rear) and the drier. This way the costly R12 won't be released into the atmosphere right away, contributing to global warming; it's hot enough out here in northern CA right now.
I just received a paper on basic HVAC operation and troubleshooting from Wally P. and will be going through that too.
Once I get the system in working order, bring on the heat.
I also need to do the 1k TB tension check.
Have fun,
John Fagerlund

John:
I have the R-12 AC equipment to check for leaks, evacuate and charge. Actually the stuff to do yours (vac pump, halogen detector, Freon canister, gages) is portable. If you can get the parts installed, this only takes a couple of hours (most time waiting to get a good vacuum). Want to try to charge it up Friday evening?

Man Bill you have everything,
I noticed some oil seepage around a couple of the connections; this indicates a leak in the system. From what I've read, the old black O rings deteriorate with age, heat and oil. The new green or blue O rings are more durable and should keep the system happy for years to come.
I'm not sure I'll be ready for the evac and recharge on Friday. How about an HVAC party in the not too distant future? This seems to be a common source of problems with our cars.
Where do you buy R-12?
Thanks,
John Fagerlund

Anytime. R-12 can be bought on eBay if you are certified to handle it ($15 online test). Brian got a 30 lb virgin canister for us from a shop in Stockton for $10/lb. We have about 20 lbs left. Each car takes a little over 2 lbs. I have a scale that is very accurate and use that and pressure versus air temp to determine the charge amount.
