Another sucessful shark surgery day at Bills!! My heater valve was replaced with the mysterious all metal one.....We did some HVAC vac leaks detection on Bills.....same thing on Charleys.....& Angelo got a working A/C!! Not bad for a 1/2 days work!!
Oddly enough my old heater valve (unknown how old really) held vacuum and appeared to be fine...but I wanted to put in the metal one.....once we removed the old one it was broken internally....the seal was degraded & not fully sealing the lever-arm.....so it was slightly leaking hot water into the heater.....another odd fact was the new metal heater valve has a slightly smaller vacuum nipple....so it leaked with the old rubber elbow.....but a snug zip-tie fixed that!! Its all good now!!
It was odd seeing so many red S4's....I am used to being one of maybe two (Steve)...but now we have 4 with Rob & Charley recently getting red S4's.....nice looking ones too!! Charely got a very good deal on his too!!
Thanks to Bill for hosting another great wrenching party!!

It looks like I missed some of the best parts of your wrenching session... Sorry for dropping in so late.
Nevertheless it was fun to see you all and meet a few new 928ers! Thanks Charley for becoming a Hooked On Cars customer the very first time we met!
For those who were not there: As I was driving towards Bill's House on 680, I noticed abeautiful older shark (no spoilers) entering the freeway. We gave each other the thumbs up and head nod, and followed eachother towards Alamo. When I had to exit, I gave the driver a hand signal to follow me, and we chatted a bit on the side of the road. I told him I'm on my way to a wrencihing party with other 928ers, and he agreed to follow me. I think he was quite surprised to see 8 or so 928s in one place, and immediately got involved in discussions with the other owners. I believe he is a real car enthusiast, since he also owns a British roadster. So I hope we'll see Andy more often, including here in the Rennlist.

Attended my first Tinkering party at Bills. Didn't know anyone when I arrived and felt like I had been visiting relatives when I left. Great group of guys..... and gal.
I like the way Bill approached a problem. Near as I could tell it was almost a routine. At first look he would say something like "Oh, yeah, well, we have to get to that part down there and we can't get to that" Then he would look at it a little more and say something like "well, maybe we can just check this thing here." The next thing you know the car is in the air, Bill is crawling through it and 30 minutes later, problem solved. Fascinating.
Met Nicole for the first time, was already familiar with her stuff from on line, so she managed to charm me into about a $10,000 order. OK not that big, it just feels that way anytime I have to part with more than a $100.
I didn't hear a cuss word all day. Not that I reccomend or even condone clean language. I just thought that was unusual for a bunch of guys working on stuborn cars on a hot day. Of course I'm used to working on cars with my brother and he considers any stuborn fastener a major conspiracy against him.
Speaking of a hot day, not only was Bill ready and willing to help anyone with anything, he even had a fridge full of soft drinks.
I'm telling you, it ain't like this on the Dodge Colt forum.

Charly:
It was nice to meet you and your "stolen" car, based on how little you paid for it. Your car got the least attention today, but we can get to some of the issues in future sessions. If you can get lift access out in your area, I can help with the motor mounts.

Charley wins the "steal of the year" award........... Well I guess it would be a contest between Charley and Kirt......since he got two 928's for the price of Charleys.....
It was nice to meet some new people (Charley and Andy)......& fix some 928's! It does seem weird working on Bills car? Since Bill is always helping someone else!!!
Bill
Let me know when your gonna pull the center console....I would like to see it first hand!!

I've pulled the console before, although not completely out - just enough to replace the broken inside air temp apparatus. I'll be lookig at the vacuum stuff later and will let you know if I decide to go that route.

I think you should able to get at the acuators with the console loose...BUT it might be easier to pull the whole thing? The good news is you can replace both the footwell and center (which is worthless anyway) while your at it!!

Brian,
I took a look at those rotors that you posted the link to in the oil pressure thread and those are beautiful. I don't blame you for wanting those. With the way your new wheels show off the brakes, it would be sweet to see hardware that looks like that. With freshly painted calipers as well ? Holy smokes.
That was a fun day at Bill's home. For a minute when Bill's neighbor came over after George showed up and revved his engine a few times, I thoought that he might be coming over to complain... but when he picked up the flashlight and started to check out George's engine I figured he was hooked.
What a great group of people.

I want to say thanks to Bill for hosting and everyone for their help in fixing my AC system, my wife was thrilledand didn't mind one bit that I was later then planned. Brian, you were right the AC did drop another ten degrees by the I got home.
Also, thanks to everyone for a fun day working on and talking about our little beauties. It was very nice to meet two more enthusiasts, Charlie (great steal)and Andy (Nicole nice pickup) and as the now former new guy this is a great bunch to hangout with.

Angelo & Charley,
It was a pleasure to meet you on Sunday.
I am still laughing to myself at how Nicole picked up this wayward 928 owner on the drive over to Bill's home. One minute, he's on the freeway driving his cool car and then he notices another 928 and to make it even better, that 928 is driven by a women motioning him to follow her...
I can see how it will start, "I never thought that this would happen to me, but I attend a small mid-western college...", then it just gets weirder because now he turns into a quiet residential street with more 928's there then he can shake a stick at.

That had to be one hell of the lucky day for Andy......he just happened to find the holy grail of Norcal 928's.......he hooked as bad as all of us......another member to the shark asylum!!!
Your right about those brakes.....it would be so sweet.....BUT.......I don't need 10 perfectly good rotors for my 928!!!! hmmm...sell off the ones I have now + the brand new rears.....then get the new ones....hmmm
Nice avatar too!

Today, George and I located his oil geyser. It was what I thought - the breather hose that goes to the base of the oil filler had a big hole in it. At high RPM, oil gets tossed up the filler. The hose had turned to mush ages ago, and George is real lucky it gave when it did instead of in the middle of the next open road race. We had the intake manifold off, hose replaced and back on in 2 hours. You can replace the hoses without completely removing the manifold. We left the throttle, MAF, and wiring to the idle switch and idle stabilizer attached. We suspended it over the valley on a few boards, which provided enough room to get to things.
