Default Cam button idea

Thinking of another way to "index" the cams. I drew this up as a rough sketch, not having any measurements on hand. You could have the key way notched in different locations for any amount of advance or retard (within the limits of the valves not hitting the pistons). What do you think? This would be very easy for a competent machine shop to manufacture in 1 degree increments. A down side is that you might need to pull the cam covers off in order to get a wrench on the cams and turn them. You could probably retard the timing by turning the crank clockwise while the cam sprockets were loose, but in order to advance the cams, the sprockets would have to be turned backwards in relation to the normal rotation. The second picture shows a stud that would locate inside the cam bolt hole. The outside "block" would fit on the cam gear and the small notch would slide over the cam key. There might not be enough room in there for all this hullabaloo. Just a thought.
