I was thinking of pimpin' my 928 mildly by moving the wheels on the rear out closer to the fender.
Do 928 owners ever do this or are there problems created?
Second, is this possible with stock rims on an 86.5?
Is it as simple as buying a spacer and putting it on with the stock wheels, or do I need the larger S4 rear rims?
Or have I completely misinterpreted the use of stud spacers on a 928?
Thanks,
Troy

Reading over my post I realized it was unclear what I was asking, so I thought I should re word it.
I have an 86.5 928s with stock rims,
Can I move the wheels out so they don't look so sunken in?
Do I need bigger rims to achieve a less sunken in look on the rear of the car?
OR
I've read that the 86.5 has longer studs, so can I just put a spacer on with the stock rims? Will I mess up the alignment if I do?
Thanks for any help

The 86 usually has the longer studs which MUST be used with spacers or open end lug nuts since the standard lug nut bottoms out before the wheel is tight. So possibly someone cut off your long studs ? or maybe you already have spacers installed ?

Do you not have spacers on the rear wheels already? My '85 used spacers with the stock rims (16x7). I no longer use them now that I upgraded to Cup wheels (17x9 rears). Do the 86.5's use the 16x8 rears like S4's?

To answer your questions, yes some of our 928 brothers use spacers in the rears to fill the rear wheel well
I don't know abvout the 86.5, but some of the S-4s fill in nicely with a small spacer
I compare this to putting a rolled up sock in your underwear

I didn't even look! That's embarrassing. I most likely do have them.
I will have to check and see to make sure.
The 86.5 has 16x7 front and rear. So the spacers are used because the 87 had the 8 inch width rims stock in the rear, I think I understand now.
How thick are the spacers?

It is a chicken ? egg thing the 477 501 701 spacer and long studs was an OPTION for widening of guage-track available in 1984 maybe earlier but by 1985 it was pretty much a standard "option" . In the redesign update for 1987 the S-4 Porsche eliminated the spacer and fitted one inch wider rims which allowed you to run wider 245x45x16 tires . Since the offset of the wheels changed from 65 mm to 60 mm the inch wider rim sits about 3/4 inch closer to the fender lip. And the 84-86 spacer was about 3/4 inch. The spacers came first the 8 inch rims gave the look AND the performance.

You need open end lug nuts or you cut the long studs to be short studs and the 9 inch rim needs an offset of around 50-60 mm .

Did you have to modify anything aside from removing the spacers to add the 17X9 wheels on an S body?
