CV Boot Replacement - DIY???
Before I knock on the door of a friend with a 928 workshop manual...
I have A CV boot that needs replacing.
Would you recommend someone like me, having rather limited mechanical experience, pursue a DIY CV job???
My DIY skills go as far as:
-replacing the door handle hinge (it took me HOURS to complete)
-replacing caps, rotors, plug wires plugs, and a coil
-replacing fuel filter
-installing exhaust mods (imperfectly)
-replace rotors and brake pads
-replace battery
Big whoop huh?
What say you?
Thanks!

I wouldnt call that limited mechanical experience. You've done a couple things, so I say go for it. check out Sharkskin's site, he shows the major steps....

Yeah, doing CV boot replacement is really easy, the only tricky part being retorquing the 32mm axle nut back to the 330ft-lbs spec. I know some say you can replace the boots without pulling off the drive shafts, but that job looks like a much greater PITA than just pulling them out altogether. I did inner boots on both axles in about 2.5 hours, never having done it before, and pulling the shafts out.
Here's the advice I got with regards to resecuring the axle nuts:

Thanks guys for the links and encouragement. I think that I will give this a shot!
I discovered that the boot was torn and yesterday drove through some pretty heavy rain including some flooding. No wierd sounds, but I hope that the grease was not completely washed out. Any special considerations or concerns?
Thanks!

Special consideration should go to your clothing choice...the CV grease gets everywhere, so wear something you don't mind getting dirty in. Oh, and keep plenty of rags on hand.

Do it man, it's easy to do. I did one side this past weekend with minor issues and the other side a week ago and it only took 3 hours.
Here is a great tip/guide site.
