Jerry - I think thats too muh work - Agree the tabs are hidden, but once you know they are there its not so hard to engage them. Its knowing they are there that is the issue...

Maybe on the underside of your cowl cover you could have bright labels that identify where the tabs should engage - would be a good reminder and invisible in normal use. Would be difficult to miss & might solve a lot of problems.

Label could have an arrow pointing to the edge of the cowl where the tab engages and text - "Engage cowl into mount tab under windshield wiper cowling front edge" or siimilar.

Thanks Alan. That is a very good point and that is a good suggestion also.

I looked back at Gary's posts and realized that his car is a MY 83 and it has the 90 percent cover. However, I suspect that his cover is a later installation because I think that if it had come from the factory with that cover the Shell sticker would be on the cover and not on the air box. I don't know for sure though.

I still need more data about the early cars, their TABS and the style of Cowl Cover they came with. Thanks.

I looked at my cowl cover again and in the center the part # 928 574 553 04 is stamped along with WXE below this. I don't know if this helps you.

Upset? DANG, I wish I didn't seem to come across like that so often. I guess in my effort to be thouough and literal I come across as angry or put out for some reason. I wasn't upset at all and was pleased that you had come up with a better word for these "TABS" than I had. It seems pretty clear that your word might be better understood than mine.

A later version of the Cowl Cover that I think came into play in about mid 87 has the part number 928 574 553 05. Yours that appears to have been cut off making it what I have started referring to as the "90 percent cover" is apparently also similar to the same one but with the provision for the washer hole at the driver's end. I suppose that version with the washer hole also has the same part number as yours, although I think they are different by a little more than appearing to just have the washer hole part cut off.
