Default clutch problem, hydraulics or clutch itself

Coming home from work today, I slowed to stop at a light. I had the clutch pedal pushed in and was probably in 3rd gear, maybe 4th. The car banged to a stop and died and the clutch pedal was stuck to the floor. I've had failed hydraulics in my 944 and failing hydraulics in my 924 and I could usually pull the pedal back up with my toes and use the clutch again, somewhat. This time, pushing the pedal down just made it stay down, it never dis-engaged the clutch. So, the clutch is stuck in operation. So, being only a few miles from home, I carefully used clutchless shifting to get me home.

I checked the fluid level and it seems fine and I don't find any fluid under the car or under the clutch pedal. Does this sound like hydraulics or something in the clutch itself? I had noticed a bit of minor slipping in 1st during moderately agressive take-offs, but nothing prominent.

Is replacing the hydraulics more or less difficult in these than in my 944 and 924? I've done both and they weren't too bad.

It depends.... If it's the slave (most likely): Piece-o-cake. If it's the hard line: A bit harder. If it's the clutch master: .

Update!!!

The reason I didn't see any fluid under the car is because the belly pan was catching it momemtarily. There is definitely fluid underneath the car now and the reservoir is getting lower.

So:

Blue line?

Hard line?

Slave? <<<<<<I hope!!!

My bet is you blew a seal on the slave. Quick and easy to fix. Be careful if you have to drive it even to get it into the garage as you could loose brakes too.

most common is the flexible rubber hose from near the sway bar mount to the engine oil pan burst very easy fix. Everything else is probably just fine.

I thought only the early cars had that flex line. Learn something new every day.

See, even an easier fix, hopefully.

the engine is suspended in rubber and moves the chassis does not a hard line would break from constant vibration movement the rubber hose looks and acts just like a brake line hose.

Bingo, you the man Jim. There is a 12" rubber hose with hex fittings on each end. It runs from near the starter to the left to near the sway bar mount. It had fluid on the underside and when I removed the outer protective rubber shell, it had fluid in it as well. Flexing the hose exposed a small split near the fitting by the starter and fluid would bubble out.

Is it this hose?

Clutch Hose - Flexible(Chassis to Engine) 87-95
Item Number : 928 423 077 07
Unit Price: $136.00

Expensive little bugger, if it is.

Question: Do these just fail/split, or is it symptomatic of another issue?

they just get old and burst one reason why I try not to hold the cltch pedal down while waiting at a light with the trans in gear ! that is the hose. The old very brown 1980 blew one at the track a few years ago fortunately I knew where there were spare parts. I do have that on the shelf and can ship it tommorrow.

I found a performance shop down on Gasoline Alley that could make me another hose, actually a flexible braided hose, for $20. Installed in 5 minutes, bled the system in 15, and everything is working properly. Might need to bleed the system some more, but other than that, I'm back on the road.

Thanks for all the help and the quick diagnosis.

That is a common thing to fail, I was able to also get one made at a local fitting store..
