Default Installed my Sirius radio

I finally installed my Sirius radio in my car and it worked out great. I have the Sportster model which is the larger model so I wasn't sure where to put it. I finally decided on the passenger shelf. I drilled a hole through the side corner of the shelf and took off the suction link and instead used a longer screw through the suction link's hole and screwed it into the side of the passenger shelf. I routed the antenna around the hatch rubber seal and around the carpet to the front shelf. The antenna mounts to the roof with a magnet a few inches from the hatch hinge but I wanted to be able to remove it when I wash the car or just don't want the antenna visible on the roof. So, I can pull it inside the hatch and place it behind the rear seat visor where I screwed a small piece of metal which the magnet attaches itself to it. I have a direct aux plug from my stereo for my ipod routed to the old cassette box so I rounted another 1/8" plug that I can plug the line out of the Sirius radio into. I keep the Sirius remote on the shifter panel and have learned to use the buttons without having to look. The radio is pretty much out of sight from outside the car, the display is large enough to read from the driver's seat, it doesn't interfer with the passenger leg room at all, and it sounds great. Now I only wish I were driving the car cross country to really enjoy using it.

That's pretty far to see the display. You might want to move it a little closer to the driver side.

That's what I was worried about at first but since it's down where the sun doesn't hit it, the contrast is excellent so it's surprisingly easy to read the display.

My Alpine has an XM controller built in but I wanted Sirius. I think we're getting spoiled. All the options an add-ons available these days are too cool. I just got a Garmin i5 gps about a month ago. It's no frills but does the job great.

Ok, but my concern was (I have the simmilar unit) that while driving, looking at the small font info will make reading it nearly impossible. I'm not talking about the large font info, but the small ones. You know, when trying to search a channel. A lot of people tend to forget that one can use velcro to attach these units to pretty much anywhere on the dash.

My concern would be in taking my eye off the road. You know the.....Geeez I know the title but who made it syndrome.............One has to be very alert and aware of the other drivers......now on my second 928 as the first was lost in a heartbeat................just my two cents ........Goodluck

Driving around yesterday I found it a lot easier/safer to use then my ipod in the car. With the ipod I can hold it right in front of my face but it takes more attention going through the menus with one hand while driving than with the remote on the Sirius. I just ordered a wired remote yesterday because of how quick and easy the Sirius w/remote is to use in the car. I don't tend to surf the channels that much so I guess everyone's usage will be different, but so far it works for me. I agree, safety first. It's not the ultimate spot to have it, but I like not having any clutter around the dash especially with having to plug it into the cigarette lighter. My gps works on AA batteries. I originally tried velcro for my gps which is lighter (the industrial strength type, cleaned/prepared the dash first) and it held for a while until the temp went up on the dash and then the glue wouldn't hold.

Sure it can, just cut the plug off and run it to any +12V source and a good ground. However you will have to remember to turn the unit off every time you leave the car.
