Default Back hatch no longer pops up

When I use the automatic hatch release pull, it actuates the motor to pop up the back hatch but the actual hatch lid does not pop up sufficiently. When I subsequently get out and try to open it with my key, I can tell the hatch has lifted up partially, but not completely.

Any BTDT tips?

Thanks as always,
Tim

Common problem. Requires some shims and alignment of the receiver. Do a search - there's BUNCHES of info on the EZ fix!

Ahh, the old square piece of vinyl siding in aft side of the back hatch. Of course! I'll whistle the theme to Mission Impossible as I do it. Or maybe MacGyver.

Thanks - I'll try it!

Peace,
Tim

I was just tinkering with mine over a beer or 2. Can't seem to make it work. Good luck with yours.

Going to grab another and give it another go.

Tim, did you resolve your AC problem?

It looked so much like mine that if you didn't fix it, check the contacts in the FreezSwitck as per instructed in the +AC problem+ thread.

sorry OT.....

Had the same problem. The upper part of the hatch lock where there are two allen screws was not completely tight and the hatch rattled so I unscrewed the rubber stops on each side, still rattled. After noting the loose allen screws and tightening them the motor would not completely release the hatch. The rubber stoppers caused too much pressure. Screwing them in somewhat fixed it. No more rattles and the motor pops it open. Good luck.

Remote rear hatch release failure is a common problem. If you hear the motor turning but the hatch does not release, you may have an alignment problem. Most commonly, the release arm will not push the upper hatch release far enought. The easiest solution is to place a small shim under the forward end of the upper lock, altering the angle at which the upper hatch rests when closed. You can try with a 1/16" shim. I had to put a 1/8" shim on mine to fixed the problem. I took this advice in the 928 international catalog (page 48).
Good luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I verified the functioning of the motor (one cycle per pull), reattached a ground wire and moved the motor down to it's lowest point. Right now, the hatch pops up reliably after two pulls. I will try the shim trick next week.

Peace,
Tim

I used the plastic shim concept I found here

http://www.928s4.com/project/hatchrelease.htm

Works great now!

Mine had been intermittent. I just came from the garage where I installed the shim as indicated by Bertram above. I used a thin strip of linoleum the width of the lock base, painted it black to match the lock mechanism.

Pops nicely now.

Randy
I also found on mine that the 1 amp fuse #26 was blown...so the hatch would open IF you held the release UP.....if you quickly pulled it, it would only cycle a little bit...not enough to release the hatch...I guess the 1amp fuse controls the timer-relay? Replaced it and all is good now!
