Funny thing - that same 1 amp fuse had blown on my car, but the remote hatch switch works just fine. I haven't replaced that fuse.

Any ideas why I shouild?

I had to put a 1/8" shim on mine to fixed the problem. I took this advice in the 928 international catalog (page 48).
Good luck.

Bertrand - Cobalt Blue 1991 S4.
I checked the catalog and I have to say, It's not obvious, the text is small to...Yep mine work now to, it took 1/8 as well for mine. Thanks for the heads up on this one Bertrand...

I fought the non-auto-opening hatch lock for several years and tried every trick known to Rennkind...to no avail. Then I finally broke down and bought a new hatch part (with NEW plastic rather than the old broken stuff) and the hatch opened the very first time and every time since...like it was designed to. Little over $100....not sure it was worth it but I did it anyway.

Does your hatch cycle completely with only a quick pull of the release? Apparently the 1 amp fuse controls a relay (??) that times the hatch release cycle....when the fuse is blow the motor will only cycle when you hold the release "up" At least thats how it was in my car? G-mans 84 had the same problem too? Different fuse on those though!

Yep, that seems to explain it.

My hatch motor runs when only (and as long as) I pull up on the switch.

Thanks for the kind offer, but I won't be making it to SATL this year. Perhaps you could toss one in an envelope and mail it to me? I'll PM you my address if you wouldn't mind doing that. Thanks.

Bertrand et al:

Just wanted to say thanks. I shimmed the hatch catch tonight and now the hatch pops up quite nicely. Even some room for me to get my fingers in to lift it up.

Peace,
Tim

Can people provide pictures of the shim you made? The one picture is nice but I am finding it difficult to understand the "design" shape/size/style for the shim. I am probably over thinking this issue but I would appreciate any additional photos anyone might have.

Those links are great by the way!

TIA!!

Rigged mine to work w/shims etc. that lasted 6 months and sometimes it opened, sometimes it didn't. Got the part last week #928 51205520 from 928 int. Popped it in in 10 minutes, also got a few spare 1 A fuses. The latch works perfect w/no shim rigging etc. How I should have done it in the first place. The hatch and other interior lights finally worked as they are designed to as well.
