Some observations: S4 5 speed vs. GT

My S4 does not feel as if it loses anything approaching 6k. In fact I was with John yesterday and Godzilla pulles so hard I let him go to 6500, and he was still increasing in pull, so I just don't know that S4's lose anything approaching 6000
If your S4 has increasing power all the way from 6-6.5K then you have a one of

Having both and then some sitting here to play with, it's fun to compare. The thing that strikes me the most is the seemingly "eagerness" of the GT to accelerate. It just wants to be wound out and run through the gears and is very hard to resist. The S4 on the other hand can be driven in a civilized manner without making me feel like I'm doing it an injustice. The GT should top out in the high 170's or low 180's at fuel cutoff and I have no doubt it will do every bit of it. The S4 on the other hand is much more relaxed at extremely high speeds and will not come close to redline in high gear.

"The supercharged version will only suck gas. man will it suck! I have an 02 Harley supercharged truck that really sucks. Will for sure get out of its own way but really sucks"
I get better gas mileage since the supercharger install. Last time I checked I was getting 22 hwy, a little less on the drag strip.

Actually the bigger injectors give a false read to the brain, I have shown 28mpg while cruising but it's not accurate. I do think if you can keep your foot out of it you can get close to the same mpg though.

Same here on the gas mileage - real good except in the first 300 feet off the line.
Pmotts - I know about the dash calculation error with the 30# injectors. I calculate mileage from tank fillups, and the SC did not change it. 90% of time you aren't at WOT unless you are intersted in collecting speeding tickets, and during that time the SC has no effect on mileage.

Bill,
I'm not saying we get worse mileage, I just question whether we actually get better mileage.
Andrew,
Like they say, drive it like you stole. Until you get used to it just make sure you are pointed straight before using all of that power.

p.s. I wonder what a twin screwed S4 5m would feel like on the highway...more torque and able to cover a lot of ground in a hurry. I'm sure it doesn't suck!

A good commentary: To sort out what is due to cams & engine and what is due to higher gearing, the real comparison needs a S4 5-sp with the 2.73 GT vs 2.2 S4 gears ... I suspect the higher gears would stimulate the S4 a bit.
In many circumstances, my old '80 with 2.73's feels much more lively than a 2.2 geared S4 auto, even though it gives away a bag of power.

I like the GT too..and you can get the best of both worlds with the 89GT....no knee pads...or psd or other heavy stuff....just simple light 928...with a top end that is out of this world.......add the Club Sport lightweight rims..and you have an unbeatable package.. Of course I am a little biased..hahaa...
BTW...the comment about hitting redline..and the revs dropping perfectly down to the right powerband is absolutely correct.....and it feels like it just wants to pull well past 6500rpm...only your right foot to stop it's ascent...
