You lose ABS when you do big brakes on 82-86?
I have early spindles I could use, but, while it would delay stuff, I could use these:

And not have to use the early spindles. It seems like it would be a good idea, as losing ABS is not something I would like to do.
What am I missing?
I think the answer may be to put an S4 suspension on there, but that is not in the plans for the 86. Plus, I like the replaceable ball joints of the early suspension anyway.
I have several sets of those early arms, and I think that is currently the best solution if you wanted to track your car and had any concerns over wear on the upper ball joints (though I am not sure if it is warranted - how many arms has Mark A gone through?)
Anyway, just a quick post on the subject.
Anyone have any GTS calipers for sale?

I understand that direction you are talking about. I have take it many times, and in time and labor, paid more. - Much More. I live in SoCal. Machine Shops here think they actually mind gold with thier tools, so to do your work, costs $$$.
60 pounds sterling, as a best offer, was accepted recently. Thats 110 dollars tops, plus shipping. The holes would need to be drilled and taped here, and I think thats it?
Unless I would need to figure out planing spacing, or another words, the spacing up and over of where the caliper would need to be.

If you look at their dimension picture, you need to figure out spacing along the axis of the hub and away from the hub along with drilling and tapping. Most caliper spacers I've seen are billet aluminum. Have you tried http://www.emachineshop.com/ ? I've never used them, but have seen some comments online about them doing good work for a good price.

Oh, yeah, matt. I have already made the 36-1 toothed ring that I have had pressed on to my 86 flywheel for using megasquirt (www.msefi.com) with EDIS. That was awesome. I have also made some distrubor plugs out of AL and specified them polished, to fit where the S4 will no longer need distributors!
I love that place, and would do it in this instance, but I am concerned that it would be about 200 dollars or more for 2, and then I would need to figure out the spacing, etc.

How would we? The ABS function is one that stems from the teeth on the hub, turning past the sensor, which fits into a hole which is drilled into the side of the spindle. There is no such hole with the 78-81 spindles, which are needed to put big brakes on the "middle" cars (82-86."4")

To add to what Brendan said... the first year for optional ABS is 1984. Cars with M593 (ABS) have different steering knuckles (spindles) and hubs than non-M593 cars. There were no 1978-81 M593 cars, so they wouldn't have the holes in the spindles for the sensors. I did notice that the non-M593 hub is the same for S and pre-S cars, so you could probably use the M593 hub on the pre-S spindles. You'd just have to drill the holes for the sensor and it's mounting screw, and possibly make a boss for the sensor to mount against.
