It would be nice to hold one and give it a good inspection!! The seller did offer to send me one to take a look at.....if I didn't like it I could send it back...sounds reasonable.....but I think I will save the $$ and wait for the Carrera III's I really want!

Uhm...just send him the link to this thread! BTW, there is nothing wrong with drop shipping. It is a smart thing to do if you are selling online. Not admitting it may be another story. Not warehousing keeps costs way down and overhead low. A broker or reseller is what he may be. Just plain smart business for him.
Anyway, if he guarantees these wheels for a year, then one should have nothing to worry about. That is equivilant to most manufacturers. I say this guy is on the up and up. I think I will buy a set from him. It all looks pretty legit to me.
JMHO of course.

I decided to take a chance on these wheels. As I was ordering I asked about "what if the wheels don't fit" and was told that there was a mistake in the front offset number. The published offset is 60mm but it is actually 50mm. I have read elswhere that anything less than 55mm will adversely affect the steering geometry and trammiling will result. The stock offset on my '79 is 65mm, I believe, and ideally that offset should be maintained regardless of wheel width provided that the wheel/tire will fit without rubbing.
I also asked about weight and the person on the phone said that he had not weighed one yet, but he had one there and put it on a scale as we talked. It weighed 32 pounds (rear wheel, 18x10, which is 1 pound less than the wheel the TireRack sells)
I asked about the included center caps. They are plastic.
When all is said and done, the cost difference between this e-bay vendor and the TireRack is about $300, if you are buying wheels also and don't need center caps,TireRack more. The Tire rack front wheel has an offset of 52mm which is hardly any different.
What to do?

Okay this makes more sense....they told me the wheels are made in China to their specs..hence the 60mm offset vs the standard 50mm that everyone else has? So these are the same wheels that everyone else sells...just for about $140 cheaper...... 50mm in the front is okay....lots of guys run them without complaints.....but it is not ideal for the 928?

Once the wheel width changes, the offset changes. Remember, offset is measured from the center of the wheel. A 7" wheel with an offset of 65mm and an 8" wheel with an offset of 65mm will NOT place the outer rim edge in the same locations.
Hmmmm...who is running this offset and what type of wheel? What width in front?

It seems to me that the ideal is to always maintain the same offset, so long as the wheel/tire will fit without interference.
However, the wheels offered by 928 Intnal. have 50mm offset on the fronts, just like OE.(OE is the e-bay vendor, not original equipment) I would trust them (928 Intnal.) to pick an offset that would not cause trammling.

I can't access the auction site right now, but if the vendor is in Florida I am rolling on a set of Jeep wheels that I got from him. They are indistinguishable from the sets sold by the dealers, except that I think the center cap sports a decal instead of an embossed logo. The finish is first rate, balanced fine, no blems, no obvious deviations in terms of materials or craftsmanship.
Only concern was that it did take a week or so of processing time for thim to ship from the vendor and to recieve the tracking number. Based on that process, it seems more like a re-seller than a drop-shipper, the wheels posted from the billing address to me.
Of course, those were my Jeep wheels....a safe bet at a little over $300 for all 4, and only required to deal with a few potholes. I'd definately be more cautious with my Porsche...

I been interested in these wheels also, specifically because of the advertised "60mm" front offset. That would definitley fit the front of our 928's.
FYI, if my calculations are correct (pretty sure they are), an 8" x 50mm wheel would push the outside edge of the wheel .846 inches closer to the outside fender than the stock 7.5" x 65mm wheel. That seems like quite a bit, even though I know others are running that wheel.
Another FYI, my rear wheel & tire together, Design 90 with the standard size Michelin Pilot HTX, weigh 45 lbs. Assuming the tire weighs the standard 24 to 26 lbs, that leaves the wheel at around 21lbs. That would be a 50% increase in wheel weight for these 32 lb. 18" Turbo Twists. That also seems like quite a bit.
Decisions, decisions......I guess that why I still haven't changed out my good ole stock 16" desigh 90's yet!

These are very heavy wheels. They are the same sold by another ebayer, and he lists the weights, IIRC, 33lbs for the rear.

BTW - I think that they are usually 57mm, and that indeed 3mm could be fudged when measuring.
So assume, conservatively, that they are 57mm front.
