Ahhh 2.64... I can maybe see the need for that, but I'd buy it to do a rear-end-ectomy if it was really that important to me and the sell it, but it's not so...

Prices are determined by Supply and Demand, not just supply!

Why does it matter that it's rare? The market does not place any premium value at all on an '89 S4 5-speed. If you ordered a metallic pink 928 from the factory via the 'color to match' program you'd have the rarest 928 of all. How do you think that would hold up for re-sale values. The '91 GT I just bought only has a seat warmer on the driver's seat. The passenger seat wasn't equipped with one. That's got to be rare, think I can charge an extra $10K for it? Yugos are also pretty rare these days also, want to buy one?
This car had melted wiring harnesses, some sort of silver tape holding the air intakes together, a corroded battery compartment and a dead battery, surface rust in the trunk (leaking hatch?), faulty throttle position switch, needs TB/WP service, wrong sized tires, and a host of other issues. You can buy better cars for under <$10K without searching too long.
That's great that you value an '89 S4, but since no one else does, the car is over priced. The market sees an '89 S4 5 speed is nothing more than a car that was ordered as a 5-speed without the good options. There is a reason it is so rare - not enough people wanted one that way to order one in the first place. 17 years later, the same holds true - there is no demand to justify a premium.

So, how much do you think an 89 is worth? ANd then after answering that, how much do you think an '88 is worth? and then after you answer that, how much is an '87 worth?
Sorry, but barring major issues, I think an '87 is worth a minimum of 13k, no matter what the paint. An '88 is worth a little more, say 15 and an '89 with the rarity is worth 20. Regardless the paint.

How would you explain these sales which also took place this month:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989-...QQcmdZViewItem
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/87-PO...QQcmdZViewItem
These are completed sales or have a buy-it now price, not unrealistic asking prices. To answer your question, I'll refer you to Bruce Anderson and the December edition of Excellence for market values:
1987: $10.7K - $16.4K
1988: $11.2K - $17.1K
1989: $12.8K - $19.5K
Your 'minimum' is at the mid or upper end of the range for each year. I will happily sell you as many cars as you want at your 'minimum' values. Just define 'major problems' so I know what to avoid and I'll start buying them up and flipping them over to you.

H has some responsibility for the future of this car, as it was previously a Chuck Zachman special, and has a binder with the Porsche crest and Vin verfication, and all receipts and Concourse wins included.
