I have also seen high quality bond work between steel and polyurethane and fiberglass. If done properly, the paint at the joint will have the same life as the rest of the job. Conversations with experienced body men have told me that the cracking normaly seen is not from expansion, but from unsupported body work. Cheaper kits tend not to brace themselved enough to the body on several points, making stress fractures when bumped etc. Also, use of certain adhesives and resins will out gas overtime deteriorating the paint from the inside out. I was told that if the product was of good quality to begin with, and they used nice resin, with the correct adhesive and propper bracing/mounting, you can achieve stock results and durability.

I bought two new GTS quarters from my local dealer for the exact reason Sterling mentioned, plus I wanted to stay close to Porsche factory origins. I got 20% off, they cost me about a grand each. At the time (Dec-Jan) they only had them in Germany & there were something like 8 or 9 of each left in stock. They were on AP, (automatic phaseout) meaning there were no plans to press out any more copies. They're on the car now & look great. We're still installing the Strosek side rocker panels & front clip. I'll be posting the pics soon.

Hey kevin,

It kind of takes care of itself. The joint is made up of epoxy - as strong as the fiberglass if not stronger. Just grind it down to fit - it feathers nicely. You can't tell on the finished side.

$2000 for steel flares plus painting plus fitting? I think Louie charged me like $600 - prices may have gone up. A bargain.

Plus they look bitchin - probably added 8" of width to the car. I'm running 315s and awaiting spacers.

the problem I am having with the Ott flares is I just bought new RIVAS in 10 rear width.I guess I could buy some 2" spacers and run a 275-285 but this may look wrong. any thoughts on that? BTW Louie's work is top notch to be sure. Adam I think I would go for it if they were 600.00. Is that the price? Louie, do you have a pic straight on from the front as well as the rear?

Hi Kevin,
I saw your post just before sunset so took some pics. The quality isn't the best, but probably will give an idea of what it looks like. It looks stock from the front straight on. I could only get about 30' away. I think you could see the rear fenders if you were further away like 100'. You can see the fender from the front if you are off to the side a little. The rear looks close to like a GTS, but Wide and the curve of the rear bumper cover flows nicely into the fender and shape of the body. It's not an abrupt change of angle from the bumper cover to the rear fender like normal for earlier than a GTS. These are not "Wide Body" look and most 928 enthusiasts are surprised that they look so stock. The comment is usually that it looks like the car should have looked from the start. They are about 2.25" wider than S4/GT and 1.5" wider than GTS. I have 335 tires on either 11" or 12" rims. I think they are 12". I bought them used. I'm using 1.25" spacers. The spacer will depend on the offset of the wheel. I don't have much room on the inside between the tire and inner wheel well. Maybe 1/2" to 3/4". Price is still $600 and I have 3 sets left from the last batch I had made. Shipping is expensive.

Louie, are they all cut for the oil cooler vent? Also, why is your rear plate so low?

The plate is low because I stuck it on there with tape to see how the cut outs where the bumperettes were would look with the plate. This was a couple of months ago. I moved the car out of the shop about 10 days ago becasue I had to put in the pit for my dyno. It's been up to 95 the past few days and it looks like the tape came loose and the plate dropped down. I didn't catch that when I snapped the pics this evening. The vents are for the tranny cooler (GT engine oil cooler) which is mounted inside the rear bumper channel. I've not run the car yet.
