Default door panel releather

Rob suggested that some of you might want to see that it is possible to recover your door panels. I did these in two nights - about 2 hours each - and they came out pretty good.

I have dark brown carpet coming to redo the entire interior, and I can't wait to get that on so I can reinstall the panels. These are going in the 82.

If anyone has two really great black door inserts, I would be interested, for a good price. The center console has the typical black insert, and I have a recovered black steering wheel to go with the new, yet to be installed, brown dash and pod.

Talked to an installer from Color Glo, the company who redid, can't remember whose, California interior, and he's given me a great price to redye all 4 seats, in Champaigne and to convert the rear pod to brown. I think I'm going to have him do the rear panels brown as well.

This is really a great time, please send money.

Rod

It gives me a lot of respect for the highly crafted intricate work you do. I stand in awe of your work. Interestingly enough, apparently the leather is attached differently than the vinyl. It was only attached at the very edges, so I could remove it and not damage anything. Glad I didn't have multiple layers or a potentially suspect base to contend with.

Now if I can just get the dash installed and my pod down to you...

Thanks to Walt for the great panels and to you for your sound advise. .

The leather came off very easily and the foam was in perfect shape, so I was able to put the new leather over the foam. I understand that vinyl may be glued to the foam and in that case, the vinyl needs to be left in place to keep from destroying the foam.

That may not always be the case. It's pretty easy to pull up an edge and see how it's attached.

It was an experiment with me and I may have been lucky.

It would probably give real meaning to the term "shipping".

Thanks, if I can't find something closer, I may come to Denmark to pick them up - I'll be in Helsinki - northern Europe next spring. ;-)

Rod: Can I send you mine to reglue? JK. I don't know what yours looked like prior, but the top most portion nearest the window is getting warped and uneven. Your photos are of the vertical areas, but it looks new. Impressive.

Yes, you were my inspiration to call Colorglo. I couldn't remember whose seats I had seen, but they were yours. The price they gave me was too good to pass up. I was actually just checking to see if it was even reasonable, but wow.. I'm going to get it done in the next couple of months. I want to get the dash and pod and doors done first - that's my job.

Thanks for the inspiration.
