'Cept I'd probably wait 2-4 years for the inevitable "upgrades" that generally follow the introduction of a new model.

Probably not a thing. Two completely differernt cars based on different principles. If anything, it will eventually sink the value of the 928...especiallly if they produce a two door version. In time, the value of a used Panamera will fall enough for one to own a Panamera instead of wasting their money on an obsolete "fat lazy 928". The ONLY association that will ever be linked to the 928 is by the press. If Porsche mentions a thing about the 928, they will merely be responding to question about comparison. Do not get your hopes up.
Unless something very weird happens, there will never be a "desire" for a 928 in the future...except for us of course.

I wonder if the prevailing attitude might be, "Why spend money buying a used, out-dated 928, when I could have a Panamera!"
However, I do agree that the market is different for the two cars. Having said that, we've already heard one 928 owner state, "I'll be selling some of mine to get one!" So, I dunno...

I disagree, I think it will help support or push up 928 pricing. The Panamerica buyer is not a 928 buyer. The price points are DRAMTICALLY different. The two cars will not be competing with one another.
On the other hand, as the press begins to report on the Panamerica comparisons to the 928 are inevitable. I believe this will introduce new, young enthusiasts to the 928 who are shopping at that price point. I thin this will spur new demand, not decrease it.

going to depend on many things, if it's touted as the "rebirth" of the 928 by the media/critics I think you'll see a noticable but not significant change,
on the other hand, if Porsche bills it as a return/new world class GT, you could see a good rise in prices
it's going to be interesing to see the numbering system for the parts, that will show you how Porsche views it

I can tell you from experience, that the Panamara will create some excitement for Porsche GT cars of the past this will add to values... The awareness of Aston Martin and their new stability has done my Lagonda quite well in it's value the past few years...

Couldn't have said it better. That is it exactly right, however the premium for GTS's will drop.
Latest rumor is next year for panamera, although i heard the Porsche Finance chief state in a live interview that panamera will debut in 09. There have been much better pictures posted here and elsewhere before. But here is the latest impression;

Cayenne US sales have leveled out at about 1000 units delivered a month. Early on they had talked about higher goals, but about a year ago they diverted more production to the middle east and seem to be meeting these revised goals while the pricey American SUVs have tanked. The model will also get a significant refresh in the 2007 model year, my guess is that change-over to 2007 production cannot be far away.
