To get the oil out of the cooling system AFTER the leak has been discovered and fixed, use a dose of liquid Tide laundry detergent in the system with clean water. Warm the car up to the point where the thermostat opens, then let it cool some and drain the system completely. That means the drain plug on the radiator and both of the galley plugs. Repeat this until you can see no oil film on top of the water in the reservoir with the engine off. Flush with clean water, drain again, then your favorite coolant and top off with distilled water.

As others suggest, having oil in there will take its toll on the rubber hoses and the water pump seal. Any film of oil left in the system will interfere with proper heat transfer too. Thank goodness it never gets hot in Sac'to!

HTH!

Emphasis on liquid Tide, as the powdered stuff will put abrasive crud in your cooling system... not good.

Thank you all for your response regarding the leak. I had the car towed to Performance Motorworks in Rocklin, Ca.this morning and are keeping my fingers crossed. Probably need a second job after the repair invoice comes in Thanks again to all you Shark entusiast.

No need for second job! With the help you get here, you can fix most anything yourself. OTH, the second job will allow more parts to be purchased.

As in most things, it is a trade off. But there is a reward for the work.

HTML Code:
Lots of times its hard to assess the condition of the coolant in the
expansion tank just due to age of the tank..and interior discoloration
Yes, a couple of years ago I was happily driving around thinking I had plenty of coolant but I was just seeing the tide mark on the expansion tank.
It was only when teh heater stopped working that I knew I had a problem.

After that I took the expansion tank out and cleaned it. Also got a new coolant level sensor installed.

Hope it is something simple for you like the oil cooler.

I had an oil cooler leak in my old 924s once, that gave me oil in the coolant but no water in the oil
