Default Rear side marker lights are out! - Now fixed.

My rear side markers are out. Also one of my front side markers is out too - but I'm pretty sure the front one is a dead bulb as the other is lit.

When I was futzing with the new brake hoses I lifted up the fender liner and checked the bulb. Bulb is good. Socket has no positive juice (verified with a multimeter).

I checked the fuses, and all fuses are good.

So this makes me think either there is a short somewhere in the wiring (maybe at a connector?) or at the central bulb controller.

Now here's where things get a bit weird. I never get any bulb warnings. Never. If you recall I had a Euro taillight harness on one of my rear taillights and I had no bulb warnings. Make me wonder if the bulb controller was defeated in some way. Does anyone know where it is located on the GT?

Thanks for the direction.

Andrew - The bulb control unit is mounted to the passenger side parcel tray.

For it to be disabled it pretty much has to be removed OR its warning outputs snipped.. (bon chance mon ami!)

Hi to fix the rear side markers open the hatch lift the carpet look foe 2 white 2 wire connectors near the rear corners of the hatch area with the parking lights turned on wiggle the respective connector the light should come on , the connection will probably be corroded so it has to be cleaned , do this after you have verified the fact that the fuse is good

Nicole: Je ne parle pas Fracais.
Thanks Alan & Stan. I'm guessing that Stan's suggestion will be the winner. BTW, Dave, Ont he digital dash there are no warning lights per se, as we have the digital display.

Nicole- someone tells me that you might have learned French in Quebec. Not certain that "marqueur" is an official word....though it makes sense to me.

Andrew- now would be a really great time to paint those damn side markers over! Think about it- four less bulbs you have to worry about....

Dave - its a '91 so it not only has the bulb but the LCD diaplay provides the warnings too (TIREPRESSURE LOSS). More difficult to defeat...

Andrew I think you're right there is an issue with the controller. Start there.

Andrew, disconnect the two two-wire connections in the hatch and check for voltage there. If you get voltage on the car-side of the harness (as opposed to bulb side) then its bulbs and corrosion. If no voltage then it might the controller.

When I pulled the bulb, the socket looked wuite clean and the bulb worked fine in the taillight assembly, so I know the bulb is good. I also checked the socket for voltage, there was nothing.

When I get home tonight, I'll try and check the plugs first (as they're easiest to get at), and then I'll look for the controller.

Alan- When you say the controller is mounted on the passenger side parcel tray, I'm a bit confused as there is no tray on the 91. So are you saying is up above the fuse panel or near the LH? Sorry to be so daft.

Methinks the previous owner was unable to troubleshoot the marker lights and maybe disabled the warnings?
