Default Dyno Day in LA (29th) - **UPDATE**

https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/266536-maha-dyno-day.html

I was thinking of going to get a baseline on the 86.

Cool

I was present at Injen Research when the 993TTs crapped on the Dyno early 2005. I watched as Keith Widom's GTS did the 3 runs, and the stress it put on the engines was pretty severe, I backed away. However, this seems a little more geared towards German cars, as opposed to Injen Research which is geared more towards ricers. If it looks like I'll be in town, I'll throw in with you guys

Its true Larry - Dynos do put some stress on the cars, but I've always thought it wouldn't be too much more then a track day.

I think we need to email Dan with our info if we want to come.

The stress of spinning a large weighted drum is basically the same as the stress of accelerating a 3400 lb car it just happens a bit faster ,the only big difference is you as the owner can be standing next to an open hood with no wind noise, regular road noise and actually hear what the engine sounds like under full load at 6,000 RPM. A typical track day you do multiple full load accelerations per lap ! and easily can do many many laps in a weekend event.

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to chime in:
  • The MAHA is an eddy current brake roller system; it uses magnetic brakes to put a load on your engine. Thus unlike a dynojet, which is just a big roller, the load on this dyno can be adjusted.
  • If there is a car we are unsure of how to dyno, we make sure to call MAHA to learn the correct procedure to dyno your car.
  • In addition to Porsche using this dyno, all the leading aftermarket manufacturers, TechArt, Gemballa, Sportec all use this dyno.
  • I love 928's!

I will do the 86 5spd no matter what (I'm getting there early, its easier for me to get up there early on a saturday). I am also trying to get t he 85 Euro done, and have my wife drive it up, BUT, I may not as the rack I rebuilt and put in the car is leaking like the valdez. If I can get the seal kit from Transtec by then and put it in I will do that car as well.

Hey Guys,

So far the morning times seemed to be owned by the Porsche guys (we have a Carrera, Brendan's S4, Larry's S4, and Jesse's 944). I'm trying to group you guys all together.

Fun time. Fun Fun. I had my 86 5spd done, and they did three runs. All very professional and knowledgable people. Its an eddy current brake dyno of the german variety, where you can hold rpms for tuning purposes. We just did the regular run up the RPMs for a baseline for the changes I will make to this 200k engine.

The way this machine caclulates HP is very different, it seems, then the Dyno Jets and Mustang dynos. It has a coast down after the run to figure out the actual HP loss of the drivetrain. At the highest power production, it says the 5spd takes up 97hp. So they calculated 280 CRANK HP, which if realistic, is just 8hp off the original stock numbers.

I will post my sheet and see if people can comment.

It wasn't for bench racing that I did this, it was simply to see where I can improve. The engine has 200k on it, and I may, since it is very strong anyway, just do a refresh and seals, but not until I have another 928 to drive! Until then I will make the changes like X-over and Chips and new wires, coils, dist, etc.

Too bad more people showed up from the 9828 crowd - it was a fun time.
