I've seen ads for spray-on treatments for the license plate that's supposed to prevent the camera from capturing the plate..also a visibly transparent 'cover' that's supposed to do the same. Anyone know if either or both work?

I'd like to know too, as I have a can of spray, but I've never got round to using it.

BULL****! (Not directed at you per se, but rather the institution at large...) Don't give me some crap-*** argument about why you have to restrict my freedoms any further than they already have been. If a cop wants to sit there and hand out tickets, fine, but robot police is crap and in clear violation of our rights. Fortunately I do not live in a state that has these bastard things... yet. Andrew, he is in Canada, man. What would you expect from the socialists?

ok... this is getting kinda depressing... informative, insiteful, aggrevating, irritating, stimulating.... on and on.... The Big Brotha BS is scary... as we watch our freedoms slip away,..... right into Mexico...... but thats another story right? I mean, they aleady have the technology where they could have systems in new cars to monitor your driving & notify them automatically whenever you speed. Thats marketed to parents who want to monitor their teenagers driving. Wait till the day they try to impliment that on us all!

I see a problem with those that blatantly run a red light long after the yellow is gone. If I am the first car waiting to go, I have tried to train myself to always look well both ways before I go in case there's an idoit running their red light. I tell my wife & kids to always do the same.

I have two intersections I have to deal with that are notorious for people to run red lights. Not just the occasional going thru the yellow. I mean your light is clearly green & 3-5 cars still run the motha after the two that ran the yellow!

One right outside my office. The side street I take across the wide six lane main street has a short light. So short that when the opposite side road people turning in front of me run the light, most times my light it already red by the time I get to go thru the intersection.

Another intersection with two five lane roads also is bad about people running thru a two lane turn lane light. Its a long enough green for them, just the a$$es are inconsiderate of others. Two days ago in rush hour traffic, I was the first car in the right lane watching the two rows of opposite turn lane traffic turning in front of me. After the 1st 8 rows of cars went, I counted FIVE more rows of cars(x2=10 CARS!) run the light AFTER my light turned green! WTF! There were only three lanes backed up 35 cars deep going my way waiting for these SOBs to get the hey outta the way! You can bet I started to pull out into the intersection & laid on the horn & flashed my lights to let them know what jerks they were for being such blantant inconsiderate dumb a$$es! One or even two running it after mine turns green is bad enough, but I counted five rows. Ok it was nine cars total cause one lane had five run it & one lane had only four cars run it.

Course, that same intersection has the cameras, for about 4 yrs now....... many times the cops are there too disquised as construction workers etc. I'm sure the purpose of all of that is purely to get the poor saps like me or Randy who occasionally go thru a yellow! Never seen them one time attempting to solve the true red light runners.

The local HP has cameras set up all around the city on major roads... with a bank of about 25 monitors in their local HQs. All for the insuring problem areas of traffic & accidents are resolved. When they were first installed, & had a story on tv, they admitted that the cameras had the ability to read tag #s, but that surely wasnt the purpose of the cameras at all, simply to monitor traffic flows! Yeah right Big Bro!

Commuting in Atlanta is already hazardous due to the sheer volume of cars. But, the stream of red light runners makes me count to 5 before crossing most intersections after the light turns green.

I hate that the only way we can make our commutes safer is to employ stop light cameras. But, there are no other solutions. In Atlanta the fine is $75 and no points accrue on your record. Personally, I don't think that is enough, but $351 seems outragous. But, I bet it makes the point faster than $75.. (Sorry Randy)

Thats your karma for running across Red.

Just don't pay it, they can't prove you got the ticket unless you were served by a donut guard.

Vegas is VERY bad! I do the same thing at lights here...unless its a corvette lined up next to me, then i give him a 7 sec head start

Seriously though, i treat intersections like i was walkign across them!

Perhaps they should have one of these when the lights actually do turn red

Tony, I have a much better idea: Issue special license plates to multi - violators. Something in red? Or how about magnetic sign on the roof of the car? Shame them!!!!!!!

Thanks for the offers to help, Steve & Ron, as well as the good info from the rest of yas.

They got me while doing a left turn thru the intersection. There's 3 other cars in the intersection after the left turn light has turned red. There must be two separate cameras at this location - one showing my smiling face through the windshield, the other a rear view showing my rear plate and me in the intersection with the light red. I have no front plate installed.

I guess I'm pretty much fooked.

Randy,

Did you enter the intersection after the light turned red or where you there before that?
