Default EZF relay confusion

To get the fuel pump to run I've been having to bridge The EZF relay (relay XVI I think) on my 86.5 auto. Today I swapped my bridge for the horn relay (know it works) and put the old EZF relay in the horn. So... The fuel pump doesn't work again but the horn works... so I think it's safe to say that the relays I've got in XVI are good... but why does it only work when bridged, and not when it's got a good relay?
I hope that made sense!

You have bridged +12v from #30 to #87 - which supplies power to whatever ... EZF in this case: proving that the relay works then says that the trigger circuit to turn on the relay is not providing +12v to ground via #85 to #86.
Either the ground contact is poor ... or work back upstream from #85 to see what is not connecting.

That does make sense- thanks for the help

I would not pull the CE panel ..... at least not yet: take a long look at the wiring diagrams to trace out the trigger circuit. A switch is a more likely problem than the back of the panel. The ground side socket can be checked for continuity with a meter ( when +12v showes up at the other socket says that it should turn the relay on).

Simon,
No don't pull the CE panel! - Your alarm ignition disable is triggered. That is the only function of the EZF relaly on an 86. Either: just disarm the alarm (long key? - other door?...hatch?) , fix the alarm (if needed) or jumper Central Electric plug F25 to Igntion e.g. B23 as the alarm relay does. However to jumper it you may as well just continue to use a bridge instead - does the same thing with one less relay...

I would investigate the alarm - worth having it work... what did you work on just before it gave you this issue??

Alan
