Default Input Shaft Seal Question

This may be a dumb question but I'll bite anyway. If someone is having an input shaft seal problem, what would it feel like? Is it one of these deals where the shift stick feels sloppy and loose or the clutch starts acting wierd?

Do a lot of 928's have this problem?

Alan and Erkka-thanks for the info you posted (under a different topic) on the input shaft seal and o-ring. I never knew the whole schematic of it till your post Erkka..thanks.

Alan-you mentioned the importance of locating the leak source...did your guy ever find the actual source of your leak?

It would feel like having oil drip on the floor -- that's all.

Actually its probably more like an oil drip on the floor every few months... this is characterized mainly by a sticky black looking transmission case.. when I had mine finally fixed after weeping for 3 years it was barely measurably low on transmission oil... almost imperceptible - even took 4 months for the first drop on my garage floor (but it had been noted in the PPI - so a good catch!)

Moral: Do get a good PPI...! I know you plan to - good insurance - either way

What I was getting at is that if the seal failed you would not be able to tell while driving. Rear main seal might affect the clutch if it was completely gone, but usually any oil will be flung away from the clutch by the flywheel. The only way to check these seals is by looking at them.
