Re-Keying Rear Hatch Lock....DIY or have someone else do it?
I have the printed off instructions from the UK website.
I don't have a drill press to work with. I could (possibly) put it in a workbench clamp and hand drill.
For whatever reason the PO (or PPO) must have changed the rear lock. None of the keys work. I've tried soaking with WD-40 to see if it was just frozen.
My hatch leaks. The seal looks fine. In examining the rear locking mechanism, there are 2 small screws holding the mechanism open (obviously a jury rigged solution) down in the body of the car--this so the hatch wouldn't lock. I think my leak problem comes from the hatch being cracked open.
So, I need to fix the lock to get the hatch to seal (and verify that is the source of the leak).
How much would it cost to get the rear lock mechanism re-keyed? I already have it out of the car? Trying to figure if it is worth my time, or would be worth saving the hassles to ship it out? Who can do it?
Any Thoughts?
Thanks!!

What's your location? I had mine re-keyed in San Francisco. 928 International does re-keying. Many folks have found local locksmiths who could do the job.

I DIY'd my hatch lock when I changed it, then went on to do the fuel tank cap so all locks are now on a single key. By careful selective swapping of the brass blades you can probably minimize the number that have to be filed down to allow a different key to work, and still function as a lock- be VERY careful not to lose any of the springs! IIRC the gas cap tumbler only has 3 blades vs the doors having 5...less , anyway.
