Default Low cost VW cross ref. brake switch....????

I need to replace my two brake switches on my 82. (Brake lights not working.) I have read in some previous posts about some low cost alternatives....maybe VW brake switches?? Does anyone know the part# or year and make VW to cross ref. this part from ??? I'd rather give it a shot and spend the $5-10ea. on VW than the $25-30ea. each for Porsche OEM.

It's important that you get a matched pair because of the way the warning system works. They have to trigger at almost exactly the same pressure, and if you get two "same" VW parts from different lots you may run into issues.

Good luck replacing them. They are tough to get at. I replaced my master cyl and booster last fall and that was a learning experience.

Courtesy of Gruffalo amongst others...VW #113 945 515 G. Be sure to shop around though for best price.

I found the vee-dub equivalent to be more expensive than the Porsche part...

If I'm looking at the right invoice, the part number from my local parts emporium is BEC 201-1086 (I think they are a Beck Arnley distributor). Price was 4.89 each in '03.

Be VERY carefull installing them. The M/C is cast iron (?) and it is pretty brittle. I over tightened one of the switches and the threaded boss cracked right off the M/C = new master cylinder.
